    Hi Ardun

Yep it was sure dark as I was there plus the fans wanted to see more and kept getting closer to the track, as all they had was a rope to keep the people back and it was like a tunnel for Art to drive through

Those first Smoker's Meets were all time great stuff ' Priceless '

The PVTA traveled to Madera to help the local club set up a drag strip...and some SoCal guys towed up to get the show started...not sure whose "Driv'n'Eat" roadster that is, but Harry Duncan's '34 is behind it...purple and yellow. Duncan ran a construction company, and fielded a number of drag cars, sometimes in partnership with the Chrisman brothers, or Ed Losinski.

This was the first version of the famous Waters and Murray "555" pale blue roadster, I think at this time they ran a fuel flathead...notice the banger-powered dragster behind, track looks like Saugus.

Not sure whose this jr. fueler is, maybe Barry Kaplan? ID welcome (as always)

    Jim Seaton 8.jpg
Jim Seaton in the old Tony Nancy roadster, replaced blown fuel flathead with a Potvin-equipped Olds, this is Santa Maria, late '50s.

Don't know what is happening here, looks like this drag '34 stopped with the tow bar still in place on a city street??

    Moody.jpg
Don Moody, far side, in the Moody, Zeuschel and Fuller fueler, not sure whose Dragmaster that is getting sideways, at Half Moon Bay

I think that this is Lyndall White, far side, in the Custom Automotive car, Amarillo (?), don't know who he is racing, this might be Green Valley, but, Texas guys, please correct me...

    PeteRobinson-at-CovingtonGA.jpg
Pete Robinson, far side, racing Billy Douglass from Lookout Mountain, TN, ...drag strip is Covington, GA

OK, here is another with no ID, anyone?

Here's a little historic trivia regarding the 33 Willys in TommyD post #42952.
It was owned by Jim Clinton from Ohio. Chuck Stolze (owner of S&S Parts Co. in Virginia) purchased the car from Clinton in late 1963. KS Pittman installed a Dave Zueschel Chrysler and ran the car in 1964 and 1965. He held all the A/G Supercharged records in NHRA, AHRA, and Drag News 1320 in 1964. Was invited to attend the Inaugural British Drag Racing Festival in the fall of that year. Won the AHRA, UDRA, and NHRA Winternationals in early 1965. And then, in May 1965 in KS's hometown of Mineral Wells, Texas it met an untimely end.

Looks like the flywheel- convertor and trans are up side down backwards in front of the drivers seat

It must have broken away from the engine, and some one set it there after the crash

K.S. was lucky on this one

Ah yes, the days before full roll cages were required. Most gassers in that era only had a roll bar...
