Hot Rods opinions needed for a possible trade.

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by fordf1trucknut, May 27, 2015.

  1. I'd jump at the chance to get rid of a money pit project for a cool old car I can DRIVE til I sell it. No matter how many parts you have for the truck it's got very little value as a project. You'd have to dump a bunch of money and time to get it close to where you might actually be able to get close to what you have in it. And if the guy with the 57's reading all this while you decide what to do? You're screwed. LMAO

OOOORRRR. You could give me your fairlane and the green f1 and then trade him your project for his fairlane and then we would both have a fairlane and an f1 each. As obama would say, "at some point....you know....you have enough cars....we need to spread the wealth around"...;)

Seriously though...I would keep what youve got.....otherwise you'd just go out and spend more money to have a project to work on and that truck looks like its just about done anyway...

If I were in your shoes with 2 trucks and a car already it would simply be a matter of which one I liked best. No one here can answer that for you. I like trucks and cars the same so I'd probably trade and have 2 of each.

Looks like it should be a no brainer for me... i apriceate all your insight!!!!!

I may talk with him again to see if we can work it out for less money. Tge owner is on here and i think he has read it. He is a friend and i am not our to rip anyone off....i dont work that way, in my opinion "getting a smoking deal" off someone is the same as robbing them since you are taking money away from them.

I know you guys dont think the truck is worth much but i do have a few good standing offers on the truck, and beeing an f1 nut.,i am currently building some for other people and know what the parts go for because i actively sell f1 parts at swap meets and on ebay....so i do know my 48-52 trucks and parts...

That beeing said i am more of a truck guy.

What makes me nervous about the car is how everyone likes it but has no interrst in buying it....i have been trying to sale it for him for a while....no tire kickers at all!!!! I just am reluctant to swap something i know the value off for something that is a big ??? Value wise.

What is tough decision wise is around here everyone that knows my f1 and his car say keep the truck....online....car all the way!!!

The car is very nice strait, solid and unmolested and i did all the work on it for him myself when he bought it out of long term storeage......i just am not "head over heels in love" with it but do like it.....so we need to talk to see what will be best for him and me.

Also for the car/truck thing. I do have a 30 coupe and 23 t so i do have other cars too.

The biggest reason that i would take the car is i am a bit burned out working on stuff and this would eliminate one project!!

After being a lifelong Tri-5 Chevy lover (but alas, never owning one) I have begun to really appreciate the styling of the Fords. It looks to me like the hardtop and sedan, unlike the Chevys, share the same roof line, am I correct?

    I like trucks,but I love '57 Fords.

If it were me the deal would have went down as soon as the offer was made. HRP

I'd make sure the car isn't a shiny piece of body filler, if that's what you want. I never really liked that vintage of Ford cars so I would keep the pickup.

Only you will know what decision is right in the end. I like the '57 Ford better, but I also didn't know the F1s had gone up in value that much. If it were me, it'd be a tough call. I'd much rather have a '57 Custom, Custom 300, or wagon.

I parted out a '57 Fairlane post once and it does appear to be identical roof to the Victoria, and the door pillars unbolt from the door shells, I'm pretty sure if you had the door windows, quarter windows, roof trim, and ***ociated parts, you could make a '57 post into a hardtop without any sheetmetal work.

As posted above i sold it for him....so it is gone....and he found an f1 project already.

It is a nice car..but the paint is flaking off in spots and if i need to repaint something i may as well spray the f1.

All older cars unless very rare cl***ics are in a slump now, just look at the '32 Fords going for $21-$24K, and that's finished cars. Check E-Bay, nothing is selling unless it's being given away. I personally think Barrett-Jackson has screwed up the entire antique and cl***ic car market.

LOL...maybe the '57 thinks it's found a home. A little info on '57's from a '57 Ford owner/fanatic.....Lots of people looking for specific model '57's. Right now the most sought after, as a number of posters have mentioned, are the short wheel based 2 dr.Custom (mine is my avatar), Custom 300 and Ranchwagon/Del Rio 2 dr wagons and Rancheros. The long wheelbased Fairlanes remain popular as always, but not to the extent of the Customs.
My opinion...the '57 Ford may is the only car I can think of where the cheaper model 2 dr sedan actually looks better than the luxury models. Shorter body coupled with the straight fins on a Custom compared to the more sculptured fins of a Fairlane give it a cleaner look. With that said, The Fairlane 2 dr sedan looks alot like a hardtop to the point where if your not looking at side by side photos as above, you need to look twice to see that it actually is a sedan. Given the quieter ride of a sedan (rattles, wind, etc.), I think in the '57 Ford Fairlane's case I'd actually opt for the sedan over a hardtop.

I know you two are friends and you're trying to help him sell his '57, I just have some mixed feelings that you are putting all of his trade/sell issues up here for any potential buyer to see and maybe improve their bargaining position. Just my take and if he doesn't mind I guess it's not a big deal. Good luck, it looks like a pretty sweet '57.

That wasnt my intention at all.....i wanted some addidional opinions about the trade which i eventually decided against once he wouldnt do it closer to an even up trade..as per some of your reccomendations.

I just put up about it not selling to indicate that i think I made the right decision in not making it mine.
