Looking for information on this 1962 Corvette known as Hitman". Started out in the Northeast, NY, Long Island, York, ETC. Then in mid '70s went to North Carolina. Raced for many years by Jack Strickland of Louisburg, NC. Pic from back in the day.
The headers look good but it will be a while before I try to install them. The engine in my car doesn't sit in the stock location & the headers hit the steering column. Probably going to wait until I put a straight axle in to use them.
I'm still looking for information on this one. Anyone remember it from the late 60s, early 70s SRNats 012 by 231ramona posted Jul 16, 2009 at 8:44 AM ]
sYc-good looking 62. Don't have any pics but if I run across any will post them up. Hopefully you have some of the history of the car. 23lRamona have not forgot about your quest either, just don't run across too many more Vette pictures. I guess there are a bunch on Facebook but I don't spend anytime there. Waste too much time elsewhere when I should be out in the shop I suppose.
Power tour with sons 64 ls7 six speed and the 62 ex race car i bought in 85 , ls1 six speed built in our garage along side of my 37ford
Sonny Jackson (the photographer) was one of the Jackson brothers. They made one of my favorite 60s gasser DVDS filmed in California by them. Based on that I would bet that the picture was taken in the 60s or early 70s in California. Just wondering if that could be your car from back in the day? I just did a little research and the car ran out of San Francisco, here is another picture of it. Rat Sass didn't you say that your car was painted purple and then white before the red paint job?
Thanks elgringo. I ran that lead down & I don't think that was mine. I am still tracking but this has provided me with several new leads and a much greater understanding of the history and culture of that era/area. Cool stuff!
No problem maybe it will lead to something. I will continue to keep an eye out for you. I was hoping that it was that one because he beat a Cobra at the Nationals
Actually it turns out the owners of the car you posted a pic of & the one I posted pics of were close friends & both raced in the SF Bay area. Seems Dutre won Street Eliminator around 1965 & Cattaneo won B/MP class, both at the Winternationals, a couple years later. Trying to determine if they were the same car...best source says they aren't & that they raced at or around the same time. The two cars are nearly identical especially in these pics. Interesting that the guy that knew Ernie said the car was painted several different colors while he had it & Mr. Cattaneo said his car had several layers of different color paint on it when he got it. They also had the same scoop on them. Went back & changed the pics as I downloaded the wrong one. Duhhh.
I sold this 59 to a guy is the Valley less motor and trans in in early 90's ,have not seen or heard anything about this car since really would like to find out what happen to it. Like to see if it’s for sale. The car was set up for big block and turbo 400, Pontiac rear end w/488s latter bar with leaf springs and floaters front straight axle with transverse leaf spring . It was also registered for the street. I think the guys name was Hector, used his down payment for the house he was going to buy for the car and said he had to get the rest from his brother. That is all I know about the guy any info on the car would be greatly appreciated Used to say Wicked Wanda on the lower part of the trunk lid below the key hole
That's a great shot Bob. Going to miss seeing you and the car at Epping this year. Good luck with the rest of your racing schedule.
We would love to come back to Epping but with a 15 event schedule including Bakersfield there's not enough time. Hopefully next year, missing those lobsters.
