Nice! That sounds like a 6V71 or 92 if I'm not mistaken.

  2. If original from 59 it would be the inline 6-71. My guess is it is a later engine as it has jakes and I don't think they were available for the early engines. (2 valve head) I also don't think that cab had a wide enough doghouse for the 6V71 or 92. Just guesses!

Mine is a 6v53T so it sounds more like this one. I'm hoping to get by without any muffler, as the turbo quiets them down quite a bit. The 53 series runs at 2800 rather than 2100 for the 71 and 92 series'

Funny, when I first heard it I thought of the 6V53, but thought, "Nah, gotta be a 71 or 92." You're right though, I tend to forget the older trucks were smaller so a 53 would fit better. It definitely isn't an inline 6-71. they sound alot different. I'm pretty familiar with that sound, having had to shut down a couple that ran away. Talk about pucker factor! lol

FOR SALE 1 slightly "used" FIXER UPPER price negotiable. :)

  9. Might have to use a BFH before buffing! That much buffing on those original paints, might cause burning.

Check out my ad in parts. I just listed two bodies, a 55 Chevy COE and a 53 GMC COE

Hi people, google found me this thread and i've been reading it for days. I'm trying to see if sourcing and getting a coe small truck built in Australia is feasible for what i want and my budget.

My goal is to use it for a daily driver and as such a small turbo deisel engine like in a modern 4wd or light truck would suit me well. I am only after highway cruising performance and fuel economy is important to me.

I'm just wondering whether it would be possible to use a light 3 or 4 ton truck ch***is and motor and fit the COE shell to it with a table top body behind?
Seems to me that i could find something in the Canter range that already had the engine mounted back behind where the seats would fit? I haven't got far into looking at this type of thing yet and thought i would ask the question as to whether it's feasible first.
I would also love to know if there is a modern V6 petrol alternative that would not require full fabrication.

Thanks in advance for any help or advice

Mods feel free to move this if i have posted in the wrong forum, i'm just trying to use the experience of the many builders who have done coe projects already in this thread.

Best advice I can give you is to find something already built that's close to what you want, then modify it to your liking. This is the most economical way to end up with a completed truck. Having someone else build it for you will be MUCH more expensive.

Is all of what you want feasible? Absolutely, and relatively easily. But if you don't have significant fabrication or automotive experience you're looking at some serious money.

  13. Well, hell - is that all it takes? Money?

Thanks Daddio. I reckon i could search for years the way i've been looking and never find one. Importing is a bit scary too.

I'm sure what you are saying is correct, and it makes perfect sense. Maybe i could have someone here in Australia who has all the right contacts do the searching for me?

Welcome to the HAMB StillDragon. You should join the COE social group on the forum and you will find plenty of ideas but do you home work as it will have to be engineered and makes me ask where about are you located ?

Thanks for the welcome mate. The social page shows up as empty for me. I didn't know whether it was a probation thing or whether i needed to be invited or exactly how it works. I can see the ***le, but it comes up as zero threads and if i follow a link it comes up with page not found or you don't have permission.

I'm in Tamworth NSW, but will travel for the right vehicle.

    I'd really like something along the lines of the condition and size of one of these from the thread;

    coe2.jpg

If i could get it with a bench seat to fit three and a flat floor i would be stoked even if it meant losing a chunk of tray where the motor sits. The truck above with a crew cab would give me wood.
As i said, a v6 or turbo diesel would suit me better than a V8 for fuel economy reasons, i'm not into performance for it's own sake.

I ride my Harley most days for messages around town, but when i have a lot of deliveries or i'm going away i i'd like to have a nicer ute.

Perhaps you should post an introduction and read the rules for the forum as that may help you a lot more. I would also suggest you update your profile with a location so any one with ideas to help you will and you will find others closer to you. My F4 (see Avatar) is not a COE but a Diesel is easy to fit.

Guys here are more than willing to help others out, but it seems you're asking someone to do the work for you. That's not likely to happen.

Sorry, i may be expressing myself badly. I'm not asking for anyone to do anything for free. I'm saying i love these trucks and i'd like to pay someone to either buy, build or sell me one to suit my needs.
I was after advice from here because this s the most informative site on the subject i could find with weeks of searching.

It took me a bit to figure those out too. You need to hover over the "Social Forum Tools" link just under where it says "Post New Thread" and click on "Join Social Forum." Then you should be able to see the threads. I think there are two COE forums, one of which is more active than the other.
This ought to be a link to the active one, if I'm doing it right.

  22. Hi StillDragon
First thing I would suggest is to check out my web site (blatant plug here)
http://aussierodding.altervista.org/INDEX.html within that list of sites you will find the COE site, go anfd grab a cuppa and browse away, there is an Aussie section in there.
Now once you have checked all that ou*** may give you a better idea as to what is available over here, English, USA or the rare Aussie only Oldsmobile COE (good luck with that) When you have decided what you would like to build then get back to me or us and the guys here will be able to put you on the right track as to what Ch***is to put under it, personally I don't think you can go past a C20/C30 Ch***is they can bve found over here, If you like the Ford or Chevy COE then contact the guy up on the central coast who advertises in just cars and just parts, he always seems to have a fw of each make for sale, either that you could go Commer Karrier, they are a neat little COE, check out Kym Dahl's Karrier in ther Aussie section
Hope that helps, that's my red COE below Valla 2014. 158.jpg

Forum rules and introductions would be a good place to start. Have a look round the forum.
By updating your info you see some one like Bill is closer to you and will possibly be of great help to you.

Thanks Bill, although i can get to your main page the links from there seem to be broken. It's directing to a different host than the alta vista.

  29. Went to Back to the Fifties this week-end, this isn't a COE, but was, (kind of) but it is hilarious with a 6-71 Detroit Diesel for power. IMG_2751.JPG IMG_2753.JPG
