My questions revolve around the australian GM brand Holden and the bare metal kustom.

Cool car and I have seen these pics of it on here.

Is that a 1st gen vette grill? I read it has a HAMB connection.

My next question is this: I did the google search for info and pics on the Holden FJ and all that I saw said/showed pics of 4 door cars. Did this guy shorten the car and make a 2 door out of it?

And any more pics or links to info on this car would be greatly appreaciated.
    Thanks guys.

  2. No kiddin...I have been wanting one of those mini-fat fenders since I first saw a photo of one, I can't say I have ever seen one in person, but surely someone, somewhere in the states has one they would let go of...then again, maybe not.

  3. They only made a 4 door sedan, and only 2 versions of that.
Another famous FJ custom was called a Bobcat, it was very similar to your photo of the 2 door. GMH built a one-off last year called the effigie (a play on FJ) , it's a wild custom.

  11. On another tangent, here's some shots of a FX which has the same body, differerent grill....

Oh yeah, 'Chopper' is the principal builder of the car you want to know about....he's a HAMBer...(lurker).

    Cheers,

  12. Yeah, they came as 4 door sedans and utes. But really, if any of you want one, do what we do - buy one and ship it home.

I know there are a bunch of early 70's Falcon coupes over there, as well as a few early Ford utes, so it's not all one way traffic!

Vette Grill - yes - it was purchased from a HAMBer a couple of years ago. I brokered the deal - but I misplaced the guys HAMB name.

FJ Styles. - 4 door, ute and station wagon and panel van - the last two quite rare in their day.

    try www.kustoms.com.au for more info.

    cheers

good to see some interest in the aussie stuff!

Holden made alot of the bodies for the aussie GM's before they started making their own cars. the FX/J were the first cars produced under their own name plate.

  18. I believe the BOBCAT was built by Bob Moule in 1968/69 in Adelaide. That was really low and short. Hope this pic is,nt distorted. Besides the very nice FJ panel vans there were about 12 stationwagons built. I remember one that cruised around Ferntreegully (dandenongs) up untill the late 70s.

The Bobcat is cool. Ausies are building some cool kustoms. I had the idea of shortening a kustom and sectioning it to make like a corvette sized kustom sports car with a chopped top.
    Maybe one day.

The best thing is The Bobcat is still around minus the vinyl on the roof.
Stone, I have three different magazine features if you are interested

Any more pics of the bobcat?

  23. I'm not really into Aussie kustoms but I've seen more than just 2 2-doored FJs.

A friend sold a sectioned, chopped, 2-doored example at Ballarat Swap for a $1000 just 3 or 4 years back. It'd been rediscovered not long before and brought out and shown again. And it wasn't the "Bobcat", that's for sure.

    Hey,

These are from a few years ago. One other that comes to mind is a mildly chopped two door (pillarless). It was done in the eighties, but in a traditional style. Will try and dig out some pics from home.
