Hopefully you have access to a shrinker stretcher tool to make that mating flange for the top. Hang in there, I am sure you will find a way to get her done!

Ok! For the time being the deck building house remodeling has taken a break so it's back to the '40!
I made the angle used to replace the missing flanges on the roof panel. Shaped them to the correct contours but now I need HELP! I need a measurement to ensure I have the roof in the right location... not too far forward and not too far to the rear... either way would total mess up the trunk location, interior details etc!
So the measurement I'm looking for is from the door jamb to the rear end (trunk opening) of the roof... Once I have this I can located the roof and start welding the 100 or so spot welds needed to hold the roof on! 006.JPG

Wish I could change the title of this thread....

Looks like the sedan was tropical green and the coupe mandarin maroon (well back in the '40s they were....)

You'd probably get better help if you'd just start a build thread with a few pics and ask your question there.Lots of good knowledge here, but most will look at the title of your thread here, notice its 2 years old and skip right over it.
Like what you've done so far.
    Good Luck!

Maybe Ryan will make this a feature at the top. More folks need to see it for sure. Have you gotten your measurement? I can provide if you still need it.

Here is one of them, the frame is cut up in the scrap pile. It needs trunk lower panel in and out, drip rails, both quarters, floors front to back and a cowl top it does have a good deck lid, the front trunk gasket area has pin holes from side to side, and the roof is bent where they picked up the complete car with a chain slung threw the quarter glass opening. Yes I will fix it if I live long enough LOL. I added a pic of the good side of the other one too.

Glad to see you are back on the coupe! As to editing the title I found this bit of info. I have not tried it myself. Hopefully changing the title will not mess with the settings for all of us following (watching) your thread.

    Very simple. :)

Looks like okiedokie beat me to the measurement. I will check my coupe just for a double check later this morning. Actually I think you should be a plank owner of the 40 Ford Coupe Resurrection Society:)

Those pictures are too small to view......... You can't view those Ford Barn pics unless you are logged on. I will have to look for my log on and try again.

That flathead should look right at home in your coupe! I see you changed the title without affecting the thread watching or following status.

  22. Looking at the pictures I'm say quietly to myself, "Yup, that '40 is a shit box!"
On the other hand, what did you pay for it? $1,000, $1,500, $2,000?
Everything , good or bad has value.

Nice work. Wish I had a 40 Ford coupe. Just got a new radiator for my 39 Ford coupe that's been sitting 36 years.
All because the 55 Chevy radiator leaked!

I just hope I can get to the place where you are with yours, but every time I do something on it I'm a little closer.

started welding the roof on... it's coming along slowly, taking my time to avoid warpage...

Had a little difficulty welding the flange spot welds to the roof, basically because I was doing it by myself and trying to hold the roof and the flange together from the outside of the car while trying to do the welds on the inside of the car... note to future self, wait for help when you know you need it!!!!

(just noticed a few typos on the pic texts, not going to fix it as it not easy to do, you'll still get the gist)

Looking good Pat! Very nice pictures of the process. The drip rail came out nice. The quarters should be seem easy after this roof project.....

progress report (picture 1) and another question (picture 2)!

ARGH! More picture typos, context, passive vs present etc... The text is added in MS Paint which once you press enter after entering the text, there is no way to update or edit... My apologies...
