After digging around I will concede that it is Fremont. :) I will explain my original doubt.
I had no doubt of the era , but the picture just looked wrong and I took it the car was facing the starting line, which it couldn't possibly be. But after finding another of Jon's photos and seeing the plant in the background, I see the error in my judgement. You can see it in my 1968 photo, but the new fence was not constructed that far then. The photo of you is actually coming up to make the turn to the starting line. In the aerial shot from later you're at the top.
I love the Fremont stuff from back in the day and a lot of my photos are on the Fremont FB page. I certainly wasn't looking for an argument either, but love the discussion.
And it's really cool that you found a photo of yourself you never knew existed. I'd bought a lot of Les Welch photos, mostly taken on days I was at the track. He was usually on the other side shooting back to stands, or on the fence where I was, and I always told him there would be a big bonus for him if he could ever come with a shot of me. He'd send me a lot of crops of the stands, but never found me. :(

The bullet holes are at an angle so I think that the car was moving when it was shot by a BAR or Tommy gun.Note how close together the holes are.

  9. NHRANUT, I like the discussion too, just didn't want you to think I was being difficult... I do remember the picture. Unfortunately my Dad had most of our old pictures and decided that I didn't need them, so they went away. But that's another story. I've seen other pictures show up on the internet that where mine too. There's a thread on the HAMB about a trophy from the Oakland Roadster show that someone had and wanted to know the history of. It was my trophy, for a custom bicycle I built. Something else dear old Dad decided I didn't need. Oh well.

  10. I'm sure either myself, or my Dad took this picture too. We knew Tony DelRio.

This story says it was shot at by a shotgun blast. Using big shot by the looks of it.

A B.A.R. would fire up to 550 rounds per minute. Dad had one in Korea. Of course you were hampered by the 20 round clip they used.
And if I'm not mistaken it was the weapon of choice of Clyde Barrow and also the one that stopped him.

Also life expectancy of a BAR man hitting the beach was about 30 seconds when the enemy spotted all that firepower.----Don, Korea, 1951-1955
