Hi all. My name is Chad and I'm new here. I just bought my dream ride, a 49 Chevy Styleline 4dr with an 8" chop. My question is about my windshield. At the moment it has a plexigl*** windshield and I'm ready to buy gl***. I've seen some one piece windshields offered on the Internet. Has anyone swapped their two piece for a one? And with my chop am I better with a two piece? Thanks in advance. Here is a pic. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1434019485.051865.jpg

your windsheild more than likely has been cut down too , there is a gl*** guy here who is a alliance member who might be able to help you out with your needs , IMO I like the split windshield look ( I have a 50 chieftain sedan ) as its more period correct .

no matter what, you're going to have to buy stock gl*** and have it cut to fit. I'd buy two piece used and have a good shop do the cutting. or if you're brave, there are threads on the HAMB that show how others have cut theirs. with two pieces you have 2 chances to get one right.

Same body was used for the Olds 88 and they had one piece curved gl***. I think the 51 or 52 Chev had the same.

If you want one piece gl*** you could order an Olds windshield and have it cut down.

The only advantage to 2 piece is, if you break one cutting it down you only ruined half the windshield. But most people convert to 1 piece for a sleek look and better vision.

I had to adjust the center portion of the roof. The rest of the perimeter was ok and I could trim the gl*** to fit.

Thanks for all the help guys. I called a few local gl*** shops in town to see if they would cut it and one told me that they could make a mold and have it made. They didn't state the price for that but I'm going to take the car to them and find out.

Cool, That's the first I've ever heard of a 53 window working in a 49-52. Thanks

Hi Chad I have a 5"chopped 49 Caddy Fleetwood with a split windscreen your gl*** would't be much different... probally not as wide.... I used a VW Kombi 1972-79 screen ...curve correct ...outside radius correct .. my local gl*** supplier cut it to size with the 3 ply wood templates I supplied ....He cut the VW screen in half and about 8" off the bottom and linished the edges more information here http://cadillaclasalleclub.com.au/forums/index.php?topic=2139.0 hope this will help ....Doug
