Headed out in the morning in the half painted Merc for a great weekend of customs in Indy. Hope to see some of you guys out there.
Jalopy Joker, Dr. Dave has been transforming this car into a period custom and is doing a fine job with the corrections. He recently completed a lot of work on the top and repainted it from about the body line on the sides up. Check out his "re-build" thread here: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/the-un-dork-ifying-of-a-merc.678319/
Lol. Thanks for filling in for me Sancho. Been on the road and just stopped for lunch. Correct, just repainted the top half recently, bottom half to follow soon.
Here's a few from the Indianapolis Museum of Art we went to this morning to see the dream car exhibit:
I saw a Chevy ('49-'52) broke down at Tom Culbertson's shop at lunch time - then a huge down pour hit while Tom was working on it a front on his shop - I assume the Chevy guy was headed to meet you guys - very nice car. I'll see you guys tomorrow at Edwards!!
Here are a few phone pics from the hotel Thursday night: Dan doing his magic: I talked too late and didn't get anymore that night. All the pics I took today were on my regular camera and will have to wait to upload them until I get back to my computer. Had a great time....what a wonderful show.
This event is on my bucket list for when the '41 is done, so thanks for covering it for those of us who couldn't get there Dave. Your car looks terrific and is well on it's way to bitchin'! Dave
Thanks Dave, I appreciate the kind words. I'll get more pics up in a few days when I can get them off my camera.
...one of the main reasons I bought it. Actually, I have a Fleetline I had intended to build a Grapevine-ish car out of....for the last 20 years...that's not making much progress. I saw this and quickly decided, sell the Fleeline, and drive this and be happy. One build instantly checked off the list.
Thanks for posting the pics, I hated missing the show this year. I hope to be back next year. Love your new ride...
We had a great time there. Our first time but definitely not the last. Long ride looking through that windshield though, lol. It was nice meeting you Dave, I wish we could have talked more, your Merc looks great and congrats on the Chevy. Nice car.
Your pics look great Dr Dave! It was great seeing you and Michelle again and getting to watch your new car purchase as it came down. Here is a shot of you on your test drive. And of course - the obligatory full car portrait.
It was totally great getting to meet you, too. I finally got to meet the legendary chopmerc!! I have been of the belief that there is no greater long trip than one looking through a short windshield...although yours is much shorter than mine. I guess I'll test that theory now that I have another driver with a full height windshield. I'm totally stoked about it and can't wait for it to get here.
Thanks Dan....although I will confess those are my cell phone pics. We will be getting that camera you showed us that you use for your "quickie" pics though. Pretty excited about the new car...and what a treat to have a super portrait of it already!
You're very welcome, Dave. The photo of you driving your new ride was taken with the TG-3 in totally auto snapshot mode.
I'm gonna have to come down and go to lunch some Monday after you get it! Smokehouse or David's Burgers?
How about two Mondays in a row and we can do both? Oh....and if you come, could you bring those Merc headliner bows....with another driver, Michelle has told me I really need to pull the headliner back out and make it right.
