Patience is for little men with no imagination. As such, we threw the wheels and tires on, and put the car on the ground for the first time. Here's a sneak peek:

I'm so in love with this car. It's like a little toy... and I just want to make revving noises or maybe push it backwards to see if it will wind up.

Kinda sneaky the way all that black just 'disappeared' during assembly.

At a glance, this '29 sits just identical to Julian's (ex-Bud Bryan R&C) '29 Highboy.

It's funny... When we got it on the ground, Keith mentioned it reminded him a little of the Dick Flynt roadster - color, stance, etc... Of course, sans the track nose...

Killer!!!! I can definitely see the Dick Flint thing going on..... I really like Red is the new black but maybe that's just me!

I gotta say that Dash has me scratching my head but I think once the interior is in it'll tie all my loose ends up!

My images don't do the dash justice... It already makes sense with the patina'd clock, glove box door, etc... you just can't tell from my photos. The interior will only help it along.

You're a graphic guy and would totally get it if ya saw it in person I'll bet.

  9. What's the idea behind leaving the glove box door patina'd? I get the instruments, steering wheel and the tie in with the ashtray given the "repaint theme" but you kind of lose me with the glovebox. I would think if the dash was redone to shiny back in the day they would have done the glovebox as well.

  14. Dick Flint popped into my mind, but several have already beat me to it! That red is something else, and I don't normally like red.

    Thanks fellas...

Today is wiring day... One of Keith's favorite days! Not sure how you cover wiring days with photography, but I gave it a shot anyhow...

I like the coverage of the wiring task. It has always been something that facinates me. If done properly it just blends in and makes a statement of simplicity. if not executed properly well.... we have all seen the average wiring jobs. my biggest focus lately is how to steer away from the coveted "zip-tie" what are great methods of securing wiring in a sanitary way without overengineering your life or the use of plastic ties and loom? A tech article or thirty would be great on how to really wire a car and the tricks etc to get that sexy tight wiring. Out of curiosity would Keith be willing to share where he sources his wiring components and loom???

And a side note. I have been avoiding the HAMB and the hotrod world for some time now. I was not in a position in life to participate how I once was. it was torture to even look and see what it was I was missing out on year after year. well with a little hope of being able to inch back into the scene I am caught hook, line and sinker with this thread. My reservations are all out the window and I am in lust for the lifestyle once lost. so thanks........

So, some folks have asked about the glove box door. It's really old chrome... and it's absolutely gorgeous. My favorite aspect of this car is that it has really been built with an eye on getting better as it ages. Just as an example, the dash is filled with gauges, a clock, knobs, etc... that are in original condition. Randy has had most of this stuff for years and just pulled it off the shelf for this build. Rather than spending hundreds getting it all re-plated, he told Keith just to use it as is... It's given the car some personality... soul.

Here's a few shots of that texture:

Well... 53 days after Keith pulled a bare frame in the shop, the car was fired this evening... And good god is this ever a hard hitting flathead. VIOLENT.

    Video feature tomorrow!

  26. I'm really enjoying watching this come together. I'm not sure if it's the great pics or the fact that is coming together so quickly or all of the above! It's like instant gratification. Thanks for taking us along!
