Does anyone remember the 28/29 Model A sedan delivery with the jag rear axle and was called the little brown jug?,,the last I saw it was in Gatlingburg, Tennessee back in the 70's. HRP
Little Brown Jug was here in Mich. back in the late 70's early 80's. I'm thinking Al Maynard had bought it.
Thanks for posting all the old pics, did not have that many hot rods in Milwaukee Wi. In the 60's or 70's that I saw, BUT tons of Muscle cars and 50's cars modified, you west coast people were always on the forefront of development of the car hobby. This type of post is a reminder that time is flying by and there's no time like the present to get off mark and do it, its true, you can't take it with you, the wife will spend it on next husband and kids will just spend it on their interests, which is how its suppose to be. Disclaimer ! This free advice or BS is worth the price charged! LOL
Thanks HRP. It's amazing how many cars you posted had features on them in the different magazines. This chopped coupe was on the cover of the first Street Rodder mag (Tex was too) Ron Weeks bad ass '34 chopped tudor with the blown Olds and wood insert top. Cottons Ardun, Jakes Delivery and his Niekamp roadster, Jim Babbs little hand built panel and more....I still have all the mags, was 14 in '70. Stole this scan off the net..
HRP: I too recall the little brown jug. Matter of fact, I think it was in a thread not long ago. Definitely in a conversation I read. Here's some pics of one of my early photo albums, '71 nats in Memphis. The coupe above belonged to Jerry Roop at the time. He painted it burgundy all over a year or two later. I'd like to have it now. I have a pic of it from Gatlinburg @ '73-74.
I hope some folks are planning a 50 year reunion of the first streetrod nats. in Peoria, my home town. 2020 is only five years away.
Somebody wake Danny up! Thank you curbspeed, I really was just speculating. You sure its Him? You guys keep some early hours! Tim
Yes. Look at the boots and the hat and that shirt. It's gotta be Tex. Who else would it be? He should have been in the movies.
What a great thread Danny, thanks for starting it. I was in my early teens when this stuff was going down, lived the scene vicariously through the magazines, the annual car shows at the PNE, and the PISRA events in Chilliwack. By the time I was old enough to build a car, Butterra had built his smoothed off model A, and the rod scene was heading towards billet pastel smoothies, and I was at the drags every weekend. You didnt see many rods at the drags or street races, so I went in another direction. But man, this stuff sure brings back memories. Its already been said, but so many of the cars in this thread got ink, and I saw almost all of them in the magazines at one time or another. Weeks '34 was famous. Van Iderstines highboy was in several mags as well. Lotta high profile cars in here.
I'm awake but the doctors, both GP and orthopedic, have me so heavily sedated after being T-boned last Monday and totaling our shop van that I'm staying at home and the pain medications have me sleeping more than I'm awake. More X-Rays tomorrow and a decision on whether they are gonna do surgery on my wrist. Hopefully I'll be back to normal/abnormal soon. HRP
