So should I find new perches ? At this point I really just want to start getting things "Rollin" pun intended.
If both holes, in perch and spring eye are same, then the perches must not be Model A. I say that because your spring eye pic shows what looks like an original rubber bushing with the steel jacket. I thought Model A does not have the rubber and the hole is small, so I think your perches will work. The only remote benefit of getting a repro 32-34 perch compared to using original Ford 32-34 perches, is that the repro will be longer threads to use a lower repro shock mount. I prefer not to use those mounts for two reasons. One is they sometimes loosen because the shock pushes it sideways. Two is that they don't look like the "old ways of mounting shocks"
I really don't want to run a lower shock mount at the base I the perch. Every car I see at the car shows runs them. What are my options ? Should I attempt to run a shock from the shock hole on my perch set up I have now ? I have shorty shocks and shock mounts to weld to the frame once things are measured and in place. If they "work"
You can get shackle plates that take a shock stud. I have a set but I've never mocked it up. I'd just buy a set of aftermarket perches at least for the sake of making a roller, yes. You can cut the extra thread off if you feel the need to.
Shocks aren't going to affect your ride height enough to worry about them for a mock up. They are for dampening so your springs don't bounce you through the roof. Ever follow a car that hits a bump and bounces up and down for 10 or 12 feet? Bad shocks. Important thing when you DO get shocks is to get a length so at ride height, under full weight, the travel is 50/50.If you run split bones, you can mount them there as well as off the shackle plates( I've done it off the lower shackle bolt with a longer gr.8 bolt and different bushings in the shackle)- as long as its part of the front end travel, it'll do the trick.--- I looked, no pictures of the "shackle" set up.
The reason I felt I needed them for mock up is because I got weld on style short shock towers for the front. I also picked up a pair of short front shocks from the same guy I bought all the front end parts from. I figured it would be a good idea to have my overall shock set up mocked up with the shocks in place at ride height so I knew if the shock towers were going to be tall enough running the shock off the top of the perch. I understand the use of shocks aren't necessarily needed for mockup purposes to be used for their dampening usage. Just for length reasons. I've seen the shackles with the shock bolt setup. I'm not partial to any particular set up. I just know I don't want to run the shocks from the bottom of the perch bolt because I don't see them in any of the books I've been reading and didn't consider them old school. ** I thought it was all the homies hitting the switches that made the cars bounce like that [emoji6]
I'm at the bar ... Drinking away my frustrations. Not joking I've bought 4 sets of shackles another set of perches and a whole bunch of bushings. Brass and nylon / plastic. I've fabbed up a set of mounts for the front bones removed and fabbed the rear arms back onto my Dana 44 and decided to send my frame out to be blasted before I get into the motor mounts and crossmember mounts because it's completely covered in body filler from the previous owner and if I had a stitch of hair on my head I would've pulled it out already trying to weld anything to the frame. The flats are easy to clean w a paddle sander or flat disc Sander but I have tried endlessly to clean the filler off the inside the rails and it's next to impossible. So I am currently waiting to get it back from the blaster. (He's had it over a week) He said by the 4th. We shall see. .
I guess I joined that club real quick...I'm keeping busy otherwise. Got my sandblast cabinet set up and have been cleaning (not blasting) and painting some odds and ends but really don't want to get too far ahead of myself. I kinda want to see things come together before I get into the small details. I was going to pull the body into the garage and start straightening the body and go over the chop welds because there's lots of daylight showing through them ... But I know the minute I do, I'll get a call to come get the frame. So I've held off up until now.
SNAFU-systems normal, all fucked up!--Don't spend all your build money buying rounds at the local "therapy" center! Sometimes you've got to walk away and take a breather from these projects. And as far as a timetable for completion, keep that flexible to the extreme. You're doing 90% of the work yourself ( while taking care of a job, your family, and eight million other things called "life"), and if you farm stuff out, "estimates" are just that. Most people won't approach the job with your enthusiasm and drive - it's not fun, it's work. You sound a lot like me- if I plan to do ten things in a day, and get only nine done, the whole day sucked. Lighten up, Brother! You know what they said about Rome- same thing with building a car ground up. Wax on- wax off. ------Mr. Miyagi
There's always going to be something holding up the works. The trick is to be thoughtful and fluid enough to be able to identify what you can redirect your efforts toward while you order/wait/search/buy/etc. the thing that's holding up the show. It's usually something small BTW, like a nut or a bolt you don't have and can't get locally for whatever reason. That or BEER.
You hit the nail on the head Mike. I pack a whole lot into a " Typical " day. Between running a business taking care of my two kids and a house plus life, it doesn't leave a whole lot of time. I tend to burn the midnight oil during the week so I can spend my weekends w the kids. Summer is the time when we camp, go to my daughters horseshows all over New England and anything else they're into. As far as buying rounds lol...I'm not a big drinker, never have been because I'm too cheap and would rather be buying parts than beers ! I pushed real hard last month when I knew I could and it wouldn't interfere w/ life. I'm hoping 2 years I'll be turning a key and be driving my car...but I'm very realistic and patient if that gets pushed back. I'm hoping to have my frame back soon and I can start getting things together so it will actually look like something that resembles a hotrod project and not a bunch of parts in boxes...however that will have to wait until We return from our week long camping trip for the 4th. Thank you to You and Pat and everyone for the words of inspiration...
Hey Mike150, cool looking sedan build bro. Two years ago I started collecting parts for a model a roadster and one of my friends said 'hey Ron, when do you think you will get that on the road?' I thought for a moment and said 'I have no clue, I've never built one of these before but I am going to enjoy the whole experience'. Small steps- even the littlest goal can be a huge victory. Enjoy it and build it the way you want
Hey guys, I've got some bad news. I heard from @Mikel50 this morning and I now know why he's fallen silent; he was in a wreck. He asked me to post his PM up here because it's difficult for him to do much with just a couple fingers and talk to text to work with. "Hi pat. Things are okay. I was in an accident mid July and I got pretty banged up. Broken left collar bone Torn left rotator cuff Four broken ribs 2 in front 2 back Bruised sternum Broken right hand Broken right pinky finger. I just got my cast off my right hand Tuesday. Left arm is still in a sling ... Still waiting to see if I need surgery on my shoulder. I use talk to text on my phone and it's been hard to get online with only a few fingers to use and it's been hard to pretty much do anything. Having my right hand free is a huge help now. I got my frame sandblasted and got hurt the following weekend. So pretty much everything stopped at that point." Let's all hope for a speedy recovery. If you ever met the man, you know he had LOADS of infectious enthusiasm for Hot Rodding and was a pleasure to be around.
I know from talking to him through the HAMB he's a good guy. Mike--- Hope you have a speedy recovery and everything gets back to normal . Stay in touch on here when and if you can. We'll all be thinking of you , Brother! Mike Bowling

Sorry to hear of your bad accident Mike, hope you get better soon and can get back to working on your tudor A. Prayers for your full recovery.
Hey guys ! Thank you for the kind words. I'm getting better each day. It kills me to look at my progress in such a short time with my car to have it come to such a screeching halt. Life came to a screeching halt actually. But I know it'll be there when I'm ready. Been reading lots of Hotrod books and all my old vintage books I've purchased. So that's been a highlight getting to enjoy having the time to read them. Looking forward to seeing all the cars at gathering of the faithful ! I'll be the guy in the sling with the elbow wrapped up and a wrist brace on ... You can't miss me !!
I started a thread on here under "Events" for "Gathering of the Faithful 2015". There's a contact # listed for the Grand Poobah, Jack Wegman if you need additional info.
Thanks Mike ! I'll check it out. It's 5 minutes from my house this year so I can't wait. Hope to be able to put faces to some names on here.
