Howdy guys. So I'm new to the old car scene as far as having and building my own, so I figured I would post a build thread to do***ent my first one. I've been around old cars forever, I'm a mechanic by day and had a serious addiction to off roading. I figured at 30 it was time to follow my true p***ion of 50s and 60s customs, cars and lifestyle. I picked up this 1965 AMC rambler amb***ador a couple days ago. 287 with an automatic, California car. I'm stoked, so feel free to hop on and follow along. All input, comments and ideas are welcome :)

  2. LOL back in the '70s I knew an old guy that had the wagon equivalent to that car. he traveled all over the country with it.

The lifestyle things is lost on me, but I will keep track of your build until it gets a bazillion pages long.

Plans for the old grocery getter?

A 65 model is not considered a HAMB friendly vehicle. Suggest you review the HAMB guidelines/requirements.

Made a mistake on the HAMB year cutoff which is 65. I mistakenly thought it was 64. HAMB Guidelines say a traditional hot rod with 65 being the cutoff. A stock bodied 65 Rambler four door sedan a traditional hot rod? Not too sure it meets that part.

  9. Welcome aboard Caleb!
Nice project. Make it your own.
I grew up in the 60's (kinda) and enjoy the cars too. Rebellious lifestyle - yep! Beats gave way to the hippies and a cultural explosion.....

"Not too sure that Rambler meets..."
'the Chevy agenda lately on the Hamb!' :p

I think it's kinda cool...Yeah, even with four doors. We can't all have Chevy Novas, (some of us wouldn't anyway)

Welcome Caleb, and congrats on scoring an old AMC. There is no reason at all that car can't be made a cool ride. I've got the AMCenvy.

Thanks for the welcome guys! Thick skin haha, seems to be the norm across any automotive board. So my plans so far are get it running, lower it down a bit, white walls, shave the handles off. A bit of a mild custom, I should have the carb kit tomorrow. Tonight I'm going through and repairing 35 years of rodent damage to the wiring haha.

  13. Lots of wisdom on the HAMB, and it can apply to your project. Keep plugging away and show us your progress.

  14. There's haters everywhere!! Enjoy the car, gonna be fine.

Well this was my night tonight, got the carb re built and installed again. First time I've done a carb on my own, still needs a little tuning but she's alive!
