Event Coverage Candia New Hampshire swap meet

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by ABONES, Apr 20, 2015.

  1. I also talked to Keith last week. Told me about rolling the field. Him and his brother are serious about making this work. I too will be there next weekend! I was at the Nostalgia drags today and there were 3 or 4 vendors.

Who benefits from the "Candia is dead" rumor? Just follow the money and it lands at the feet of the NED Board. Let's all support Candia, which I feel is the worthwhile successor to Amherst. I think Jack Doyle did some scouting at Thompson and Stafford Springs and got enamoured of the dollar figures. Those are two different venues, not trying to do it every month and with a long history. I have personal experience with dealing with NED back in the 80s, when the Kustom Kings did the nostalgia drags for three years between the CSRA and the M*** Street Rodders. I realize many people I dealt with back then aren't with NED today but I still have some rope burn scars over that deal. Big corporations are what they are, be they peddling baby food or drag races.

More vendors and the field was in better shape in Candia yesterday. Did anyone make it to the NED flea market? I couldn't, just curious how it was.

I went to Candia too, but people who went to the dragstrip first, then came to Candia, said there was a lot of foot traffic, but not a lot of vendors. I thought Candia was excellent- rain held off till 11:am, I sold enough to cover the spot, and I bought some really cool stuff at good prices. And the girl selling coffee at the food truck sure got some of my money!!!! Holy Moley!!! I was buying coffee and throwing it away just to get another peek!!! ( yes, I am a dirty old man- like they say " there's snow on the roof, but a fire in the furnace!") Sorry, got a little off subject there...........Ahem.... Next time even BETTER- SPREAD THE WORD ( and the "Ring Reckers" car show in downtown Amesbury is later in the day. A TOTAL Gearhead Sunday.)

  8. Damn Mike, she got my attention. Gotta meet you next time. I was in spaces 181-182 with the trailer and shortbed Chevy.

I went to Candia first and stopped at NED on the way back home to Amesbury. Scored at Candia nothing at NED. NED had a lot of vendors and a crowd. If you want late model, performance drag race parts, tools, weed wacker, toys, general yard sale **** go to NED. Some but very little vintage stuff at NED. No charge for parking/admittance at NED. I prefer to pay the $5 and go to Candia for my first stop then to NED.

I am so sorry I didn't get to Candia for the 2nd swap. Weather looked iffy and I have been going through some difficult times so my head just wasn't in it last week. I haven't needed much in the way of specific parts for a few seasons now but that never stopped me from making my monthly trek to Amherst. And I intend to support Candia in the same fashion.

I'm planning on going the 28th- don't have much left to sell, but just to sit in the middle of a field of old car parts ( and old car GUYS) is worth the price ! Cheaper than a shrink, and there's always that DELICIOUS coffee!!! Only hang-up might be if I have to stay home to sell a car that day- guy might be driving up from Tennesee and if he says Sunday, so be it. I will be there in spirit if not in person! I think Clyde Kelton and Elliot Brown ( Model A guys mostly) liked last months "get together", so hopefully they'll be back ( Clyde bought a sandwich and came back with eyes as big as dinner plates- very impressed!) ( and he said the sandwich was good too).

Just ran it by the Wife, she's into the idea of going to the June 28th event. So chances are good I'll be there. I'm going to see if @BOSTONCAMARO wants in too. What time do y'all show up to load in?

The Blevens boys said " when the rooster crows", so that's pretty early! I usually try to get there by 6:30 , but I'm in no big hurry. As they say " All the good deals are over before the sun comes up". When I'm pulling into most swaps, Billy Belmont is heading home with a truck full of goodies he's bought! I guess they also let people drop stuff off the day before ( ie- a trailer). My friend Clyde Kelton did that last month, got a room, went out for dinner, and made an event out of it ( he used to do the same thing at Amherst ( RIP). Might be a good idea to call ahead and check. I'm going for sure; car sale was put off till Monday.===Anyone close to Amesbury M***, the "Ring Recker's" show is the 28th too. Always a good turnout with nice cars , good folks , and LOTS of eye candy!!=== Happy Daddy's Day!

Called mr. Blevens today. He said it is on rain or shine. I guess it is up to the vendors, but they aren't getting their money back as I understand. It is a toss up.

EDIT: well, tam is going and I need spring clamps as well as the retaining bolt. So it looks like I will go. Anyone else???

We were planning on it but the weather is looking too miserable for us to want to pack up and set up and sit in. My canopy was destroyed by the wind a couple weeks ago. I'm going to try again next month.

Unless it's POURING at 5 AM, I'll give it a shot- think Fitchburg and all the soggy good times you've had there!

Well this is a bummer. Really wet and about 4 vendors. Admission is free though, but no coffee.
Still bought my spring parts as well as a buckeye jack though.

We're planning on giving it another try in July. It's the day before my Birthday. Hopefully we'll get a good dry day!

I might do a yard sale this weekend to get warmed up. Old carbs and fuel pumps will be over by the used underwear and kitchen implements.

Could some draw a map with the drive time/mileage from major cities in New England to Candia? Guys that take the time to read this thread would be able to deside if that trip is worth taking. Bob

Sounds like most swap meets these days! That map sounds like a cool idea- some tech savvy young-un should jump all over that!
