  2. '40s or '50s I would guess. You got to remember only the rich had anything but an Ice Box before the war.

Stewart Warner made refrigerators from the early 30's up to the beginning of WW2. Don't think they made any after WW2, and during the war all their production was for the war effort.

It most likely has sulfur dioxide refrigerant in it. If its yours, be careful about messing around with the refrigerant system as sulfur dioxide is poison and stinks so bad that a good whiff of it will make most people puke immediately.

Sulfur dioxide 1941 advertisement, is it gas or electric? Sulfur mustard (Mustard gas) does not exist naturally and is manufactured. It was banned by Geneva Protocol in 1925. Cool fridge, those wings along are worth it.

    Electric powered .

  10. ..............................Electric fan, gas fired heater.

  11. Wish you were close enough to have my A/C guy check it out for you. Sure you can handle that. Wouldn't plug it in right away ... but I would not be surprised if it still functions well. That is cool as hell. I'd rock it.

Very cool fridge! I wouldn't be surprised either if it actually worked. I pulled one out of a trash pile a few years ago, plugged it in, and it cooled just fine.

  13. .....................I've checked it out with a jumper box. Blower motor works like a champ, moves a lot of air. I bought it at Carlisle a few years ago for $10 never intending to use it for a heater but just for art. I love the art-deco look of these heaters. I cleaned it up and refinished it with hammertone spray bomb and re-did the stripes (sorry for the lousy flip phone pic). It didn't come with the siphon tube and attachment for the intake to pull fuel to it (they rarely do) and frankly the idea of siphoning gas into the interior to heat the car scares the living shit out of me. Apparently they were safely used for decades in various makes particularly Corvairs and God-forbid, SMALL PLANES! I've heard folks say that they would heat up the inside of a cold car in the Winter much faster than waiting on water to heat up.

  14. ...................................DUH, Just realized you were referring to his fridge NOT the heater.o_O:rolleyes::confused:

  15. ... funny you say that ... I just read up on your heater. haha. One of the only two Stewart Warner pieces here, that I could feasibly dash mount. The fridge' cool as hell as it is ... I'd have to remove a seat or three for, but may as well dash mount it too.

    Ten dollars ? !! Stellar.

I have a new in the box siphon tube kit to hook that sucker up. Wonder what EPA would think about burning gasoline inside the car for heat?

I don't know, but air-cooled VWs had gasoline heaters into the 1970s, although technically the burning was done in the trunk.

As for the 'fridge, I guess if Crosley can make cars, SW can make refrigerators!

GM made cars and refrigerators (Frigidaire)

Nash made cars and refrigerators (Kelvinator)

Chrysler made cars and air conditioning equipment (Airtemp)

Yes, but Crosley was the only one that started with refrigerators.

actually with the new regs it would be more efficient since it would have a catalytic convertor on it making it even more efficient and convert the CO to CO2 . but both are still dangerous gases . and with the VW it vented outside the trunk under the car . and when I ran mine I always drove with a window cracked as it could cook you out of the car .. but running it would half your fuel milage .. :(
