Couple guys wanted pics. There is a few of the truck in general and a couple so you can see the bodywork that needs attention. Thanks again. Everyone on here seems like a good bunch of guys. I was on forums for another vehicle I own and everyone there was tougher than the next guy.

I don't understand some of these comments. There is no such this as too nice of a paint job. One of our customers who competed for the AMBR, just hopped in his car and took a road trip. These are cars, they are meant to be driven, even when they are finished very nicely. Of course not every car has to be taken to that level. Here is my opinion on your truck. You don't have just some truck, or a beater. You have a custom truck, which to me means that you do need to look at some details, think about gaps, get panels straight, and spray shiny paint. Looking at your photos, there is definitely some straightening to do. The areas where metal work has been done is obvious. It's not the best metalwork, but it's far from the worst. Certainly good enough to make a real nice truck. A good paint job is all about the prep, which is time consuming, which means expensive. But, the good news is if you're willing to take the time, you can learn to do it yourself. That is what I would do if I was you. I do agree that since you just bought it, you should take a season to drive it, and work out any bugs and/or make any changes you want. Then give it the attention to detail and finish it deserves. You have what could be a real cool custom truck, don't short change it. But all that is just one mans opinion. I'm doing the same thing. I can't afford the paint needed for my projects, so I'll take the time to do it myself. In fact thats the same way I got into building cars. I couldn't afford it, so I learned it. If you are willing to learn and put in the work, no level of car is unobtainable.
You are absolutely right, no such thing as too nice of paint job, just too costly for ones intended use of the vehicle, so if you are willing and able to do the job yourself, it comes down to how bad you want it to look nice.
It has wheels and an engine. Its supposed to be driven and enjoyed. Dont think it over, just drive it and have fun. Its a gorgeous truck.
Dont get in a hurry for shiney paint. take your time enjoy the truck and do the body work as you go. fix a fender one weekend ect. This way you can keep driving the truck. fixing a small area is cheaper and takes less time than fixing the whole truck at once.
..I usually don't care for these trucks with all those mods, but whoever did this truck hit the nail on the head, all the proportions look rite, ..the overall build looks great also. ...it's your truck so only you can decide which way to go from here, any choice you make will be correct. Good luck with it. Hope to see you around this year, maybe at the Iron Invasion in Oct in Woodstock, Il. ...be neat to get shots of your truck with my stock bodied p.u.
It is sure a lot nicer than what I started with.. Looks like the panels were welded in an the welds were ground down.. I had rather see that any day than a mess of mud an screen wire an PBR boxes holding my cab corners on.. Do one panel at a time by the time you finish the truck you will know a lot more about body work!
How long is a piece of string? It looks like the work so far was pretty well done. At least they didn't booger-weld it together and pour gallons of bondo on it. You can take it to any level of finish your heart desires-- limited only by the budget. Unless you have money to burn and you don't care, it will be easy to exceed the truck's value if you shoot for a high-end finish, especially if you're sending it out to a shop. I'd take it panel by panel and leave the color scheme as-is.
Whatcha got there son is an opportunity ! Start in one spot, finish to the best of your ability and move on. By the time you get back to the starting point , stand back and look at how much your skills have improved !
Id grind down the visible welds, add a thin layer of body filler over them, feather it out, paint it black and drive it. Yeah black is hard to get right, but its a truck. Make it your own and drive it
The shop truck look is acceptable now, this will pass for one of those easily. I always look at what it will cost ,and what will it be worth. Not everyone does that and are surprised halfway thru a project and find out they can't sell it. If you work on one small part of it at a time while driving it you will keep interested and not get burnt out. best of luck
What size tires and rims are on it? I like how they fill the fenders. Cool truck, and as much as I like original patina/scars and repairs this has been cut/modified and primered/poorly prepped... which means it really deserves some more attention to detail. You have an awesome truck, go the extra mile and make it right.
I like it a lot!!!....I'd drive it the way it is, but paint it....you will get tons of looks of appreciation on the road as you drive it....a nice coat of paint would make it top-notch indeed!
I would leave it just the way it is, maybe paint some of the bare metal underneath just to protect it. Maybe finish off the interior a little more. Sh!t is mint
Looks done enough to me. The only thing I would change is the location of the upper mount of the front bags. It looks like the spindle, or the nut might be able to contact the bag. You NEVER want metal touching the rubber of the bag. If they can rub, you could be in for a nasty surprise. I'd fudge them inboard slightly.
Yes, most bags can handle being operated off-axis, within reason. This would be well within reason. I doubt you'll need to move them much.
I like it as is but agree with some of the comments....work on one fender at a time smooth out what you can and when your ready paint all four fenders at the same time so that they all look the same colour/shade, if they turn out ok then maybe do hood then doors then bed then cab
