  1. Well ya can't just come in here and say sumthin' like that and leave!! Now you must go and find it!! :)

  2. Try to remember, Danny. I wouldn't mind having one of those. Do you think Dennis O'Brien did them?

  3. Guy's I don't have a clue,it seems like it was a couple of weeks ago,I went back through the history and spent about 30 minutes looking this morning but couldn't find it.

I looked on Dennis O'briens website and didn't see them. HRP

  4. Hey fellows, after giving it more thought.

I don't have a current copy of the Early Ford V8 club of America but I might have saw a advertisement for the topper there. HRP

Lynn Pew would probably know about the hats. He tipped me off to the guy who did the tee shirts for the '40 display in CA this winter and I was able to buy some.

Their website lists them for '39s, 2014 anniversary. Maybe it was in their print magazine and they haven't updated the website?

  7. Yeah,I checked the website and saw the same thing,I know I let a pal borrow my most recent magazine.

It may be something a vendor is offering and not something affiliated with the national club. HRP

Nice way to spend a summer evening tonight. Annual cruise at the local Mopar dealer Foss 001.JPG Foss 006.JPG Foss 019.JPG , free hot dogs and soda. Over 100 cars with live band. Miss Linda and I were there in our matching "40 is 75" tee shirts and had a good time. There were two other '40 coupes in attendance too.

This was posted by M.Edell on the thread about scavenger pipes today. Had to move this over here, what a 60's flashback '40, eh? Dumped in the front, rolled and pleated running boards, chrome reverse wheels, nerf bars and of course up in the back with belled scavenger pipes! Takes me back to early 60s, cruising Main Street by Schemmerhorn's Drug Store where all the girls hung out after school.

  11. OK,my 40 Ford friends,my pal brought my March/April copy of the V8 Times back today and low and behold on page 15 there was the photo of the 1940 Ford 75th Anniversary license plate tab.

Looks like they will be available sometime in August. HRP

  12. Thanks, Danny. I thought it was kinda ironic that the Early Ford V-8 Club, sort of a stickler for originality, would put the semblance of a blue dot on the Forty tail light lens. Maybe a subliminal nod to the hot-rodding tradition?;)

  13. I'm not sure how annal the rest of the Early Ford V8 regional groups are but with the Upstate Chapter of South Carolina #163 we have a lot of guys that have cars with sbf,sbc and even a hemi in their early Fords. HRP

I have a question about '40 Fords, and I'm told the problem is pretty much universal to all '40s, not just mine, which is shown earlier in the thread, thx to HRP.
Mine gets driven a good bit, as I thoroughly enjoy it with it's SBF,5speed, IFS, pwr r&p steering, and 4 whl. disc brakes. And all this driving means a good number of times that I have tried all sorts of techniques when refueling to avoid the fill pipe puking gas out on the fender well before the tank is full.
    Anybody got any suggestions?

  17. I never fill mine up the neck. Mine isn't a long distance traveler so I just try to keep around 3/4 tank or so to avoid the dreaded gas running down the fender.

I have acquired a filer neck pipe from a modern vehicle with the flap
in place. I will adapt this to my 40 tank and see if this may help the
gas run out after filling. If the tank is vented properly I do think the flap
    will help.

I have a Hagan fuel filler on my coupe for just that reason. It still takes a soft touch on the pump handle to keep it from shutting of the pump. Last year I had to fuel up at a very old farm co-op station in a small town. The pumps were ancient and I no problems. Guess the pumps had a lot less pressure than our new ones.

  20. Problem is the fuel pumps so much faster now because of the price, when gas was 75 cents a gallon I didn't have trouble pumping gas and spilling it all over the place. HRP

I place the handle at about the 7 o'clock position and squeeeeeeeze gently, listening for the sound of "almost full." When this fails I clean the fender up RIGHT AWAY.
I'm cleaning the fender quite often, not sure there's a foolproof method.;)

Thx, H A, yes patience is a virtue for sure in this case, but I think I'll chck out that Perma-Cap deal to go with it, since you can apparently recess it in the filler neck and still use the stock cap on top.

  24. Whichever method you use, always keep a good coat of wax on that fender, even if like myself, you're too lazy to wax the rest of the car, and as i.rant says, clean up any spillage right away, even if it's with one of those nasty squeegees they have in that bucket of filthy water by the pumps.

I never knew this was such a pervasive problem with '40s.

  26. ..................I think it's usually a matter of overfilling and that little cork gasket inside the cap that seals to the neck gets dry and hard over time allowing weepage.

I don't think it is only 40's. I can remember my Dad [back in the days of full service stations] always telling the pump jockey " don't crowd it". I think that the op was talking about the gas "belching" out while filling.

Probably not only '40s. I was just surprised that, once the conversation started, several guys chimed in with their strategies or corrective measures for fuel spills.
