you could use a camera with a flash underneath and take lots of pics and a screw driver to look for soft spots on the floor and frame.
when you get home with the pictures you can blow them up with the computer and see details

"What's it worth" is usually determined by a couple of approaches.
First is Fair Market Value or " the price at which the property would change hands between a willing buyer and a willing seller, neither being under any compulsion to buy or to sell and both having reasonable knowledge of relevant facts".
Second is Intrinsic Value "that an individual may place on the same ***et based on their own preferences and cir***stances".

That second one is the what bumps the price either in the sellers mind or the buyers mind. From your comment above, it appears that # 2 has already started working on you.:D

I wouldn't let the '38 Std. "haters" hold me back. That car looks great. Grill looks good, dash looks good, gl*** looks good and check out that reflection in the door. A good clean-up and polish and that car will look really nice.

It's got A/C. Up your offer a bit.

  7. Carl is actually correct here. Everything has a real value then we put whatever value on the item above or below that real value according to our own likes and dislikes. That doesn't change the fact that there is an actual value there.

A 38 standard resembles a 37 Deluxe. For whatever reason in those years Ford used the carry over thing from one year to the next.

The '38 Deluxe was known as a bull nose either sedan or coupe depending on which one you are looking at. I like the standard and the deluxe models in the '38 but a lot of people have a preference.

That car will clean up really nice.

No^^^, I'm going to give the old man some time to think about it... I know there might be some others out there but a 53 year hibernation and 34,000 mile Ford is hard to find.. I'm going to try and wait him out, but I don't know if I can...

Don't wait him out. I lost a nice '61 Vette project doing that and someone came in behind me and ******ed it up. Stay on it!

I have a 39 std. A pretty good car. What you have there is a good car also. It's a tudor sedan as I see in the pics, That's good. The rear axle is probably a 4.44:1 .
    Not too good.
I'd pay 7500 for it and be happy. I don't think you can get hurt at that price at all.
If you wanted to, you could clean it up and sell it to a Ev8 club member. It is unique

CASH! CASH! CASH!;) A guy yesterday bought a pickup box from me when i told him i wouldn't separate it from truck, his success was offering me $100 less for just the box than entire truck, had cash and a trailer. i had sent him more pictures and he couldn't get here fast enough, roll it out and maybe drag along a trusted helper to put the condition in true perspective. good luck!

    Hey Carl.
If you want a sedan I can`t think of any better subject to start with than what you`re looking at there.
That car is well worth $7500 if that`s what it takes to make it yours.
No paint work to do, extra parts to recover some of the purchase price and it`s local so no shipping.
You know you want it. I`ll even go look at it with you. I won`t buy it, I have my hands full now!
Go make the deal. You`ll not regret it.

The old man called me today, we haggled some more and finely settled on a price.. I left a deposit and should pick it up by early next week.. I will take some pics getting it out of it's 52 year resting place, on the roll back and in front of my garage so you guys can see the whole car.. I'm excited now...

Wow what a neat car. I had 37's, 38 deluxe's and 39 standards but never a 38 standard. Enjoy the excitment of breathing life back into her ;)

That worked out as well as can be expected............good on you.

  30. If you're not going to use the V8-60 aren't those worth a fair amount of money alone?

Guy over to the Nats has a similr '38, in primer, no gl***, not much interior, rebuilt big flathead, wants $6500 and I think he's about double what it's worth.
