Looking to buy a new radiator for my 1937 Dodge pickup. It has a mild 318, and will never get over 400 hp even if I change engine. I plan on running a mechanical fan, and driving the piss out of the truck. I do not want to worry about overheating ever. I have a stock radiator, but not sure if that is the best way to go. I would like to here your opinions on which one has worked for you. I am not to worried about cost, I just want it to work. Is it worth the money to get mine checked and rebuilt?

Around here Griffin does not have a good name.

  5. I have a Walker in mine. Haven't taken it on any long trips. Seven gallon fuel tank. But have flogged the **** out of it a few times at the drags. No problems and I have a 180 stat in it. Also I wanted the side straps a certain way. And that was no problem. I would buy from them again!

  6. I'm happy with a Walker. Being copper, you can have them repaired easily. They have a real long warranty now. Not cheap, buy it once.

  7. Well I have run about one of everything over the years, Walker, US, Harrison even Griffin. I have had at least one of everything fail at some point. Perhaps it was just age.

Walker has been around since just a little bit after dirt, US not so long I don't think and Griffin started out as roundy round radiators. One of the fellas actually knows the man who builds Griffin and has had problems with them, of those listed I would probably lean toward Walker if it were me.

as Beeno alluded,Griffin Radiator built radiators for NASCAR and modified race cars,I talked to Buddy about building a radiator for my 39 Ford Convertible.

    I had noting but problems.

I am sold on Walker Radiators,I have never experienced any problems with the Walkers, the one in my sedan is nearly 20 years old.

Walker Radiator has been in business since 1932 and the radiators come with a 10 year warranty. HRP

I have a Br***works radiator, with an electric fan, cooling a 350 SBC. It seems to do the job well.

Is there a reason no one is saying to get my old one rebuilt? I thought for sure there would be someone saying to.

Tony, think about it,you original radiator is 78 years old, metal fatigue could be a problem installing a new core and you won't have any guarantee, plus re-coring a radiator is pretty pricy. HRP

    That's what I've got, metal fatigue! :D
I'd go with any of the popular name brand radiators out today. Get the one with a decent guarantee. Cooling seems to be the biggest problem with old cars.

Have a Br***Works in my Roadster. Works very well. I would say either Walker or Br***works and you should be fine.

Walker, been in the car since the 80's. Had a leak a few years ago and called walker. They fixed it for free. I only had to pay shipping. Over 100,000 miles on the car in my avatar.

I have Walkers in both my '40 Ford coupe and my 31"A" Hiboy, never a heating problem in either one. The Hiboy, BGII, handled Steel in Motion last year with nary a hint of getting above 190* during 6 back to back runs on the strip, even though the return road was lined with vendors and a huge crowd that require 1st gear and a lot of off and on the clutch to negotiate thru and back to staging area.
Mopar radiators of that era were of what I believe is called a cellular core rather than the tube and fin of today and my old friends, now dead and gone, who ran the local radiator shop for many years, always said those cores couldn't handle the pressure caps of today. You had to keep the pressure very low, 4-7#.
When I called Walker before I bought a cap, they said their radiators were designed for up to 17#!!!!!!!!!!

Learned a long time ago that when it comes to Brakes, Steering and Cooling to buy the best. Walker is initially pricey but well worth it. My 46 Ford convertible has a Walker for 16 years and still going strong.

I think I will call walker on Monday, thanks guys. Are we talking $500 expensive or $1000? Not that it matters, but would like a idea on what they go for.
