So I've had my car for quite a while now, but I've never really been able to figure out exactly what model it is. I really don't care much, as it's far from a stock model at this point anyway, but recently I've been working on the interior, and it got me curious.

It's registered/***led as a Customline going back as far as I can trace, but it's a business model, with the platform in the back rather than a seat. The platform paint matches the original paint under the carpet, and along the back where it attaches to the floor the paint appears uninterrupted, so as far as I can tell it was original to the car.

Also, I'm not sure if it's a business coupe, or a 2-door (did they make a 2-door business model?). Is there an easy measurement I can take (like maybe the rear window size or something) that will tell me if it's a coupe or standard 2-door? The VIN doesn't help much; the A4RG just tells me it's a 223 '54 built in Richmond CA and could be a 4-door, 2-door, Mainline, or Customline.

Notice the difference in the larger rear window in my Customline two door compared to yours? \'54 Ford.jpg

Yea, you know for some reason I just never noticed that on the 2-doors the rear window basically ****s right up to the leading edge of the trunk, rather than the 5" or so gap I have on mine. Funny how it's so obvious now that I'm actually paying attention. :p

Yep, 302 with a T-5, so far so good. I have a little fiddling still to do with the clutch just to get it perfect, but other than that it's pretty much done. I keep meaning to get some better pics, and actually a video or two as well. Sounds awesome with the 23" Smithy gl***-packs.

Do the rear windows roll down? I've got a Club Coupe and the rear gl*** rolls down. I heard somewhere that the Business Coupes had stationary rear side gl***.

'57 business sedans had stationary back windows as well as the rear shelf. The oem rear shelves for '57s sell in the thousands!!...don't know about other years. In '57 the business coupe model was 70D, and called out on the vin tag.

Bad habit of mine, the second reference I made to the '57 business model I called a coupe..they actually are business sedans...same body as the Customs and Custom 300's. No coupes in '57.

I know the '59 had a business sedan, model 64G. The Custom 300 2-door is a 64F, read right off the VIN tag. The 64G is easy to spot as it has no c-pillar trim and no birds on the rear quarters.

My 54 business coupe's rear windows roll down. I thought they all did.

Then it's a Club Coupe, not a business coupe.

I'll be dammed you are right. I just looked at my sales brochure. I thought the business coupe was the only one with the shorter roof.

My club coupe has roll down back windows too. Only the business coupes had stationary windows. I think there is less or no side trim compared to the Customline also.

Love the business coupe look of the early 50's Fords and Chevy's too.
