The majority of the above examples seem to be on the conservative side.....just a “little” lower in the front, not much of real California rake.
Yep, that's where I stole the thread title from. Tried to find pictures of your Pontiac on the web but couldn't find any. Gorgeous car!
This is Toby Halicki's Buick. You might remember a movie he made years later called Gone in 60 Seconds.
Well, I didn't call anybody else out for their transgressions in this post, but 2 of the 7 vehicles I posted fall outside the OP's call for '50s-'60s models, and 2 are non-HAMB era. I am guilty of showing off that I've driven raked cars for nearly 60 years. No excuse.
The last three pics that Speckled Ed posted show the REAL California Rake. Note that it's low in the rear, but even lower in front. A lot of us used to call it a Frenched Rake... But, we were goofing around.
Only those of us who cheaped out didn't lower the rear too. I used to drop the front and leave the rear stock and used the excuse that I was a hot rodder but the truth was that I always thought that they looked better with both ends dropped and I was just too cheap (or lazy) to do both ends. The stink bug look is common these days and it isn't any more right now than it was back then. Proper is drop and drop some more even for a rod that is not pure custom.
Guilty as charged during my formative years. An exception could be made for, say, a '40 using an A spring in the rear to clear the quick-change.
Mannow Mann! Is this Olds HOTT!!! Do you know if the top is functional? Either way, WOW! This one captures the magic. Looks like a 1959 Imperial grille. The LaSalle posted is also a high class stunner.
