Well today I got to ride in this awesome 1933 Chevy for the first time in 54 years Ted's Dad gave me a ride when I was 14 and I never forgot it. Today young Ted gave me a ride and it was cool. I think at 14 I was more impressionable. Not that today was not great, it was! But I must say at 14 I was high for days after that ride. Also I think todays ride would have been better if the rims were red. Sorry I just had to. Thanks Ted I needed that!

If it had an early straight 6 with headers and no mufflers, I would have begged for a sound clip.

wing windows wide open, cowl vent, open side and rear window rolled down.......motor running at 200 degrees............temperature in the 90's............cool!

at 3k rpms the motor "comes alive"............ who needs the little pill.

 

car climbed "chicken hill" in high gear with ease.

then stopped at the lake for a swim.......but i wanted to just keep driving.......

 

fooled with the carbs and linkage a little. the arm on the secondary carb had some play on the shaft and was doing strange things with the rpm's. i made a cover for the lighting junction block, and wired a relay for the heated seats.
i also changed the glass packs out and put some new tips on. with the 4.56 gears and the bigger motor the cruising range was matched to the loud resonance/cackle and made driving it uncomfortable. my wife says i am just too old......
i put a set of "stock" style mufflers on. now i can here the nice clack of the lifters
we had a little rain cloud go over and then we took the car out to dinner and a cruise through town.

 

And at the end of the rainbow is the pot of gold!

heard something "ticking" from the back of the car when i parked it, sounded sort of like a muffler cooling off, but more metallic. the noise was coming from the fuel tank and got louder when i took the cap off. i looked inside with a flash light and there was the float and rod bobbing up and down, tapping on the tank. so i dropped the exhaust and pulled the tank and sender. i fished the float out using a flexible grippy finger tool. the new float arm had fallen out of the sender. i must not have installed it correctly.
what i also found was the new gasket had swollen from the fuel and it had started to leak. why do they sell anything for fuel that is not compatible with todays blends?so i made a new one from cork gasket material and put it back together.

 

you can see how swollen the rubber gasket was.

 

The assortment of tools reminds me of a tech tip my friend uses: He puts his TV remote in a baggie, claims it keeps dirt, chemicals etc. from getting to it. I don't have a remote, which I would just lose anyway, have take the walk.

 

hah, a buddy of mine gave me his old tv, it's big in every direction and takes up a whole shelf in the corner of the garage. i like to have the rednecks driving in circles, or a hockey or football game on. remote has ht the floor a few times and i have had to chase down the rolling batteries.

 

dad took it for a test run. he brought it in and set the toe. car is much better at high speeds.

yes and it is "fun" power. 3 to 5K rpms is a blink of the eye.........in any gear........
i had a weird "cut" out, during HARD acceleration........turns out the msd has a rev limiter............i think i better leave that.

 

Or maybe a smaller shoe size......

 

that's how a hot rod is supposed to run... I'd be looking for a 6800 chip. I have a 7200 in my daily.

 

5K is not enough in a hot rod with SBC that is just begging to turn more revs! time for new chip!

Dave built a twin to this motor that ran in a stock car for three seasons without a rebuild, motor saw 7500+ rpms at the track.
he has just built one for his late model camaro............he says it flies!

 

give it a little time to settle in, then up that chip, you are leaving the best stuff on the table...

 

i was hanging on. i never looked at the tach, i am sure i was way above the 5k mark.....
and the look on the face of the Harley rider, at the next light, who thought it was just an old car and thought his bike was quick ............
