That coupe is really nice. Wish it was sharing the garage with the RPU

Yes, excited is right. Pretty happy with it so far. :)

What a great build, love the fab work! Some how I had missed this
thread, just read thru all of it, great problem solving! Just got my
project to this point, it's killing me to pull it apart! LOL
    Good luck, Rich

  3. It's been a while since we've had an update. You know, one of the things I like about your build is where you've positioned your headlights. A lot of people have them too far forward or too far back, but I think you've gotten them right.

I did a lot of messing around with the headlights, tried a lot of different positions and got frustrated.
Left it for a few days and did something else.
Went back to the headlights and they just kind of fell into place and I thought wow, that was easy :D

As far as an update goes, it will be a little while longer but hang in there, it will be worth the wait. :)

I better not say, "patiently waiting", I may get reprimanded by Larry if I do, so I'll just quietly wait.

Got out and did a little bit of roaming around today and stopped in at Bass Kustoms shop right near downtown Dallas. Met Brian Bass and hung out for a little bit of hot rod talk.
Bought a couple of T shirts before heading out.
Brian is a great guy and it was a pleasure to meet him and see his shop, and the coupe and the roadster too.
That Flathead in his roadster sounds great.

    The long awaited update :D
Back home from Michigan, the Rod Tops crew had the RPU in their shop for a month.

I also had them make a set of their zip in side curtain windows while they were at it.

They sure did a nice job, I love the top it adds a whole new dimension to the car.
As you will see in the pictures, they made the rear using a bow that sits above the body and the top covering snaps to it.
That way there are no snaps on the body when the top is removed.

Next will come a few other details, then total disassembly for the finishing process.
Some pictures from the Rod Tops shop and back home.
    Larry.

Hey, Blue One, when it comes to seating, I am a firm believer in comfort over anything else. At 68 long years of age, I am searching for a better seating arrangement than I presently have in my Deuce roadster. I have made two trips to Cal. from San Antonio recently, and the GLIDE seats just aren't making it. If covering my seats with a freaking Mexican zarape makes it work, that's what I will do. There is NO substitute for comfort and ride height, with comfort being paramount. I intend to make several more long trips before we check out, and comfort will determine what I end up with. Good luck with your ride.

Thanks, I think so too. Michigan is a long haul from Alberta, but it was a good experience.

Yup, that is a looooong drive. We did Ohio some years back. Great trip, saw lots, but it's far. Did you do a holiday, or just a 'get the top done' blast?

Dropped the car and trailer off at the shop in the first part of July, then went down to Texas to visit my wife's 5 kids and 15 grandkids.
The drive in the great lakes area was very nice.
Hung out in Texas and Oklahoma for a month and then back up to Michigan to pick up the car and trailer for the run home.
So all in all a nice trip and a great holiday at the same time.
    Larry.

Thanks Eric, I have been following your T's progress as well.
I have a feeling that you will be driving before me.
I've been told get her together and paint and all later. I have to take her all apart for finish welding and other details and I just can't make myself put it back together without making the parts shiny :D
So, it will take a bit longer.:)

Absolutely take your time. I know a lot of guys will actually build their cars bare to the point that they actually drive them around the block, then tear them apart for paint. That way they can be certain they've missed NOTHING and it all goes back together much quicker and easier.

I could NEVER do that. Once I drive it, it stays together. That instant gratification is just too wonderful to let go of in expectation of a better outcome in a short time. We got my A Tudor together as a highboy in anticipation of putting the fenders and running boards on.... NOPE! Too damn fun to drive! I sold the car before that happened, the new owner sold it again, and the third guy came by to meet me. I said, "Hey, do you like fenders and running boards?" He replied he did, and three weeks later a bunch of us got together and threw them together on a weekend. Something I NEVER could have done knowing the car would be out of commission while we transformed it, LOL.

    Hey Larry
Nice build. I see this has been a multi year project. Mine will be as well but not because I need to fab all those parts like you. lol. . I look forward to seeing your roadster out on the road in person someday.

Not a lot of progress to report. I will be ordering a front drum brake kit from MT car products (Boling brothers) this week.
After fitting them it will be very close to pull her apart for final welding and finishing.
I got a little ahead of myself :) by getting a local powder coater to coat my intake manifold as a sort of test of his work.
He did a fine job on the old 573 intake I had him coat it in Eastwood cast aluminum powder.
Had the Mummert valley pan done the same.
After that I assembled the carbs and linkage.
Like I said, a little bit ahead of things however..... baby steps and it all needs to be done.:D

  27. That came out nice! Really dig the carb bodies as well. I was debating polishing the six 97s for my 430 but you've got me thinking about following your lead...

I just couldn't keep the discs.
The drums will look better and work good too.
