  1. Out for a cruise last night, just about to pull into garage when my buddy says someone is walking up the driveway, guy is smiling from ear to ear "thankgoodness someone saved this car!", turns out he looked at it years ago, even had it partially pulled out of garage for a good look, made an offer, his offer was declined & his name went on the pile with the other offers :)
He was very supportive in my preservation & said "this is the only way this car should be"
Then I took him for a blast around the block to his house, he was impressed how it rolled along & brought back memories of how his dads old cars rode & smelled !

  2. I saw you post on another thread that you're going to make it to the Jalopy Jam Up. Cool, looking forward to having a good look at Snewps.

It will be nice to meet ya !

  4. Remember my story above about the one & only picture from 1970 I was shown & that was all I had to go on for almost 4 years while I waited to see the car ?

Here it is !! She was kind enough to let me have it off her mantle to scan this morning !!

  7. And a couple more... she thinks there may be a few more, but she will have to hunt for them, also met another person at a parade recently that thinks they have a couple of the car from years ago... I will have to continue checking with original owner to see if he has had a chance to dig any up, he thinks he has one of it in a parade shortly after it was on the road in 1962.. that would be a great one for sure !

Funny to note that the door panels were already warped & had some battle scars, but the front bar certainly took a beating during storage... also the tires look low, but it may have already been rarley driven by this point, apparently it had no 2nd gear in 1969...

  9. Ha ha - The first picture haunts me, can you imagine being shown that picture & then being told that the same car is sitting in the garage no more than a few feet away & it has been parked for over 40 years... & then waiting almost 4 years to see it ?
Good things come to those who wait, but it was quite a feeling the day I seen that photo !!

Wow what a thread. I have laughed out loud several times, simply cant contain how cool all this has been. Those last pictures are really what its all about. They really are more than just cars sometimes.

BTW, Its nearly 2000 miles from where I am at to were you are. Damn...

  13. Thanks much, agreed to some they are much, much more than just cars & I'm happy to one of those people, just like many of us here on this site - I see your in Texas, I used to live in Irving about 10 years ago, wife & I got engaged in San Antonio, every couple years we come up with an excuse to visit, when I retire I want to winter in Texas & the first thing I'll do is get a " I'm not originally from Texas but got here as fast as I could" licence plate frame :) Never know.. maybe Snewps will have to come on vacation down that way someday...

I know its an 8BA (cast in rear of block, not just heads), unfortunately the Canadian engine numbering isnt well documented, so I haven't been able to track that number (rear right corner of intake) original builder is certain its from a 1952 Ford Truck, it was bored 60 over & ported/relieved all stock parts, no one can remember the hp from the dyno session, but apparently it was a decent improvement over stock.. originally I think 8BA's were rated for 110 hp... after 53 years Im just happy it runs !!

Hey thats cool. Yea I was born in raised in SA but my dad's side of the fam is from Bandera where I live now which is about 30 miles NW of SA. The "cowboy capital of the world" or so they say. It is a really cool little town and would be a good stop if in the area, plus driving the hill country is a ritual out here. Just dont come this time of year, it has been 100 plus the last week or so...take care!

I've somehow rolled right past this thread innumerable times. Monday, I finally started reading through it, and just finished it. Incredible, in a word. You sir, are to be commended for your integrity. I'm a young guy like yourself (almost, I'm 44) on here (and oddly, I'm an old fart at work), and share your admiration for the golden era of hot rodding, and the generation that built 'em. The car is unbelievable, from the interior, to the use of the complete '47 suspension (brilliant, I think), to the channel, the cycle fenders...and on and on. And the reunion stories with the people in Snoopy's past are wonderful. The post about taking it to see the widow made me well up a little, and I'm pretty crusty. Thanks so much for sharing.

  18. Have fun at the Jam Up! Drive it as much as you can down there; then you can drive it next time. Take the ferry with the car; I've done it a few times.

  19. I hate that I trailered, but with the gearing & transmission, the flatty is " singing" at 65 mph & running it for 7 hours at that rpm is begging problems...
It's more of a "in town" Car. .. maybe I can get the rear axle gearing to a better ratio & then I will drive it !
Trust me I didn't want to trailer but didn't want to detonate my flatty either !
Yep ferry would be way to go for sure, didn't have the travel time to do it this time around.

Have a great trip! I would not worry about driving it that far. Do you have a tach ( I do not remember )? I had a:D hopped up 8BA in high school and ran that old truck 44,000 miles with all the razing I could give it. If it is good internally I would run it! Keep up with your Great story, Gary;)

  25. As the 1 year anniversary (August 23 2014) of me loading Snoopy up from his long slumber is around the corner, I thought I would share this video that I took right after we had it strapped down & ready to haul him to the shop.

  28. You have certainly come a long way in only a short year. Sometimes I go back and look where my car started, and where it is now. Good to get a little perspective now and then.
