Having only ever driven stick shifts ! Big engines and small and driven stick shifts with a broken clutch cables just get the rpm right and they go in fine.
The difference between the rally guys is they use a servo (clutch master cylinder)
Reducing the effort and increasing the speed between gear shifts.
Quainton Stott is spot on damage can be done to the pressure plate if not setup with minimal travel.

Long story - but - the $$$ street car guys had a little get together at the LSI tuner shop near us - right around the corner - so we brought the hot rods and the Quick N Dirty to do the ch***is dyno $40 for 2 pulls. Let's just say they had an 'in' crowd and we were not it :D Black shirts, Converse Allstars, goatees - we were straight outta the garage - almost could hear them say "Hey these guys are gonna be trouble o_O" We were asked to park 'off-lot' . So we bailed and had Mexican food. No Dyno. Car guys are car guys right ......? no. Very weird vibe at that place.

Scolding well taken. Moving it to the top of the list.

I had an off-topic car with an 18 spline mopar transmission like that shifting 1-2 and 3-4 if I had the revs up. 2-3 was a problem though with the pistol grip shifter it was like shifting a dump truck due to the long travel.

I wish I was still having as much fun with cars as you guys are.

Strange over here in the UK we have the same thing
I think they are called lifestyle rodders. It seems it important to look the part as well as drive the right car ???
Real shame you couldn't use the Dyno Tony.

    Next up fuel temperature?

It's a bummer on the dyno Dave. :( wanted to get a number before the 467 swap over.
Not sure about fuel temps - my gas is in the front of the radiator and the temps have never been over 180F so far - even at Meltdown.

This is where I spent my time lately  I asked everyone even a Southwest aircraft welder if these mags could be welded and re-drilled to 5 on 5.5. Everyone said HELL NO! Which explains why these were cheap o_O. These were supposed to go on the car from day 1 but never could figure out the 6 bolt deal. Then Ether says "Get 6 bolt axles." A-ha! Why didn't I think of that ...... these are 10" wide and the Palimedes are 9" , which was ok for the 3 year old narrow slicks I had anyway. These fit a 29.5x10.5 perfect.

Spent 30 minutes with some Goof Off and voo-wa-la 1963 ..... I know PBRmeASAP was a little sore that I got the Palamides for $600  a man can never have enough guns, guitars or magnesium.

Nice wheels Tony, Mine for the slicks for BGII are 10" American aluminum Daisy, and my tires are also 29.5X10.5 and fit nicely on them, although the tires are bigger than I need with my SBC, they were given to me and I never look a gift horse in the mouth, LOL. At least I don't get sideways at the line and almost take out the Xmas tree like I did last year @ Paradise, LOL!
If you haven't already ordered the axles, you might consider a dual bolt pattern in them for possible future needs. Mine I got with 5 X 4.5 and 5 X 4.75 patterns.

  10. Hey! I got a fantastic idea! Why not get some 6 lug axles?

Quain has welded and redrilled magnesium wheels...the ones on the front of his Willys were 4 lug Willys pattern off of Genes car...he converted them to five lug.

Are the ones Quain welded real magnesium, or are they "mag" wheels actually of aluminum? There's a BIG difference when it comes to welding them.

Yes real magnesium can be welded. Quains wheels are definitely real magnesium. I went through this last summer on welding magnesium. I talked to several "welders" that do it for a living and only found one that told me it could be done. Another hobby of mine is vintage go karts and my kart has magnesium wheels on it that are pretty much impossible to find. So I did some research and found magnesium rod and started repairing them because they are impossible to find unless u want to give a kidney for them. It pretty much welds like aluminum just a little dirtier. I used a larger cup on the tig torch and turned up the argon a little so u have plenty of flow that the weld don't get out of control. That was the advise the guy I talked to gave me. I have welded quite a bit of magnesium now and never had an issue.

Hope my new pistons are almost done ;) these fat tars are gonna squeal like a pig.

Quain was the first guy I asked to weld the lugs LOL. He said Hell No! He said the lip can be repaired with not much effort but the lug hole wants to expand or shrink and will crack as it cools. He said he spent like a day on his wheels so the hourly rate to do it would be more than wheel is worth. Way above my welding skill level so that option was dropped.

Yea I can do them but like Tony said the process to weld mag that thick is very involved. They have to be done right because of the load they will see. The only reason I went to the trouble to do mine is because Gene Cromer gave the wheels to me and I wanted to have something from him on my car.

Would they also need preheat and post heat after welding?

Where is everyone getting their slicks? Just wanna support any sponsors. I usually go to McCormack Racing just outside of Detroit. Fair pricing and free shipping on flea bay.

You got a build thread? It looks like a cool car. As for slicks I just drive to Summit in McDonough. I don't think SEG has a tire sponsor ...... yet.

Something as thick as the center of a wheel does, that's what took me so long to do mine. the heat was so bad I could only weld about 10 minutes then back in the oven until i cooled off then go again.

Hoosier 10.5 X 29.5 is what most of us are running. Call 865 414 4596 ask for Jody and tell him you are building for SEG. Tell him I told you to call. Won't be any cheaper but it will let them know you are supporting them through the South East G***ers.

If ya really want to put your car on a dyno, take it over to Mo's Speed Shop in Dallas. They'll hook ya up. 770-222-5015

204 White Park Dr., Dallas GA

I think the Dallas town car show thing for this month is tomorrow(Saturday). Think Mo's does some specials for show Saturdays. Give 'em a call, see what's up.
