My front axle has a pretty rough life, but as you can see in the video from several years ago it has enough power to hold it up and not slam it back down, that's what bends them most of the time. It been in there for well over 200 passes and I don't baby it.

Life is easy on a axle if you can keep your foot in it... It will come down so nice!!!! It's when shit goes wrong that crap brakes and it bends up stuff. Most of the time if you have big power and go to high and pick the back wheels off the ground or even worse have one pick up or spin and the car or truck turns to the wall and you gave to get out of the gas. That when it comes down like a rock.

Bottom line if your going to do wheelies you will F##k something up over time!!!!

Your right, A lot of the cars I see doing the big wheelies set real high or the engine is way back, so they don't need a lot of power to do the big wheelies, and yes they come up so hard the back wheels come off the ground sometimes. Problem is they snap up hard because of the high center of gravity and don't have the power to hold it there so down they come hard.
They better have one of your good axles or they are going to have trouble in the end.

Thanks Dave, I was showing what a beating my axle takes. The dry hops are harder on it than the run.

  7. I checked out SEG again, what's up with your point standing this year?

  8. On the tech side how is your rear set up to avoid binding the leaf springs against the ladder bars? floaters on rear?

I use sliders real simple set up I have used since the late 70s. It's just 2 brackets on each side of the spring with 2 bolts and the spring between, it can rotate or move front to back without any bind. Here's a pic of mine.
I have a 51 Studebaker gasser build thread going here that has some detail. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/...ness-coupe-to-south-east-gasser-rules.964515/ ford rear end housing 001.JPG

Are you talking about why am I so far behind in the points, I suck this year. I have broke 2 engines and didn't get to race at 2 events. I've built me a high revving 331 now maybe it will stay together.

I'm not out of yours or anybody's league Dave, I just take my time and don't get in any hurry so things usually turn out pretty good. Also I'm always here to help if I can so don't ever hesitate to ask.
In SEG trim the Grand Illusion has been a best of 5.76 to the 1/8 and 9.26 lifting a little early in the quarter and it was only 5.84 to the 1/8 on the 9.26 run so it should run 9.10 when right. Here's a video of the new 331 on the 9.26 pass left the line at 10,000 shifted at 9,500.

I have 4 1/2 or 5 inch wheels on three of my street-driven cars with no problems. The last pair of the small windows I had now reside on the front of the Mystery Willys.

Yes I did and they are a very nice replica. Unlike most so called replicas. Street driving would be no problem and you will have the right look.

  22. the raw are available at Summit for $250 throw some 560-15 Firestones on them and they look great IMO. Firestones and Beanies.jpg

  23. I also appreciate the polished but don't see the extra $100 each for my car.

Now for the rear tires, may or may not be ready to purchase but appreciate ALL feedback
I was thinking pie crust, decision white or black.

Call towel city and get their cheater slicks they are much more correct and are a good product they even have fronts available as well they drive good balance well and seem to work good on the dragstrip I am not a fan of either of these tires the pro trac look to 70's and the cokers look like mud and snow tires here is a pic of. 26. For Pie Crust I like Towel City, Radirs, or Hurst. I think M&H is making them again too. Personally, I think the Firestones look too much like bald mud/snow tires, but if they wind your watch, get what you like.

Piecrust slicks for the correct look. Just park it when it rains, because it is like trying to drive on black ice....you just along for the ride. 035.JPG
