Technical edelbrock carb spacer help needed

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by cobalt333, Aug 24, 2015.

  1. Uh Oh I got confused you are putting a square bore carb on a spread bore intake. Just find what holes line up where and make 'em fit.

    I'd do things a little differently than anyone else has mentioned. I'd go with the Holley replacement spreadbore carb; still has the SMALL primaries, but the LARGE secondaries. Used, and rebuild it yourself. Or, like has been said, use the Quadrajet the intake was designed for. This is one of those cases where an adapter just is't right. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.

  3. Butch,
    I totally agree here. Good advice.

    I would think that if you already have a carburetor, and you already have that spacer,. You should stop asking advice and use them. They will work. The idea of an insulator is OK. But millions of cars are running just fine without them. Maybe you could ask someone who has turned a wrench before to oversee your installation. But as you can see, ask 20 people for advice and you will get 20 opinions. Bolt it on. It will be good experience.

    Opinion 21;
    Get the junk outta the way when dealing with open holes. Nothing worse than a manifoldectomy looking for abolt/screw/washer thatb really fell into a void in the frame.
    I was careful too...

    Well, here it is coming up to almost 10 years later and reading this for the first time, I was wondering how the Olds ran with the spacer plates? I ask because I've got a Chevy 454 with the same manifold as you and looking at doing the same plate set up. What was the final stack up that you settled on? So if you're still around please let me know
    Thanks!

    None of this was necessary anyway; Edelbrock sells a thin steel plate that allows the use of square bore carburators on intakes like this one.
