    exactly!:D

You know, I think my Ducati would really look nice in front of the fireplace, and the hardwood floor would really set off that metallic maroon...

My, George! Your Desoto block is sitting in a direct proximity to mine, in my new shop; Not next to the washer/dryer necessarily, but within coordinates to the man door...My Desoto block is a '55 276.
    Great minds....

I doubt it , as trying to get it up the flight of stair on cut pile might be a problem as it has no traction ... and I am not allowed to have a motorcycle anymore . unless she gets to ride along ( passenger ) , and I only ride alone, my last passenger was screaming to get off  .

my neighbor somehow ended up with a big block Mopar of some sort. someone he was helping out left it there so eventually he gave it to a guy down on the other side of the building(this is an industrial park), so this clown comes over with a fork lift and gets the motor, about half way to his shop he drops it and broke the crank when it landed on the balancer, so what does the asshole do who was just given a complete motor for free that probably ran? he brought it back and dumped in front of my buddies shop.

guess he didn't need it anymore after he broke it.

well I made a fatal mistake well.... 2.. one was I got remarried , 2 was I emptied my house as we were going to sell it and put my stuff into storage so I lost my squatters rights , then moved back into my house with her crap as hers sold quicker .and didn't claim my territory back ... and I fought for my garage space but lost some of it in a remodel ... but atleast my parts books and manuals are on shelves in the living room , all 24 milkcrates of them :p and she agreed to buy a new bookcase for that wall .

  8. I remember years ago helping one of my uncle's mates fitting an SBC to an O/T car. He was pushing the motor across the shed floor on a home made engine dolly, at a fair rate of knots. When the front wheels caught an expansion gap in the concrete and over she went, busted the snout off the water pump and dented the shit out of one of the valve covers.

or another time fitting a similar engine to a freshly restored Holden when the chain let go and dropped the engine onto the radiator support and smashed the front of the car all to hell, I think the owner invented a few new swears that day. Luckily no one was hurt either time.

Yeah. Well it hurt like a sum-a-bitch. I think the surgery/biopsy to find out it wasn't cancer hurt almost as much.

I was actually thinking about the difficulties present in getting a Ducati up the stairs and into the living room, especially with making that right angle turn right at the top of the stairs...Then it occurred to me. I can hoist it up on to the back deck, and wheel it right in through the kitchen!!:)

  11. 2x6 on the steps and up you go.
Traction paint on the 2x6 helps.
It's best to enlist help because you will high center on that last landing step.

Well, for starters, a Heavy Duty engine stand....then, mount the engine to the stand from the side of the block. I have a 263 straight 8 mounted that way. Made a couple of brackets, one for the pan rail, the other for the side mount bosses on the block, and have the rotating tube of the engine stand midway, front to rear and a bit above center, top to bottom, to accommodate the crankshaft and cyl head weight.

Basically the same principle as was used for Ford flatheads with the factory recommended tooling for dealer shops.

Well at the other end of the scale (no pun intended), I lifted and moved a V8-60 long block by myself the other day. No heads or intake but they don't weigh much. I'm going to try lifting the whole thing as soon as my herniated disc heals up.

When I was a young feller, I straddled a 302 ford, intake to pan, stuck my fingers in the exhaust ports, and waddled it about 50'...:p Then a buddy and I swapped it into another buddies pinto in about 45 minutes, while he was eating dinner. The 4 banger was already out, but that included hammering in the trans tunnel and cutting the spot welds out of the stock mounts. When he came out we were hooking up the wiring and fuel lines. Crazy shit we used to do...

Ok guys, I've found the best way is to ease into things by only storing new parts in the house first.
the alloy heads I've had in the wardrobe for about 15 years but these shocks are on the bedroom floor.

And here I was thinking you had just invented a new vertical style engine stand......

Looks like it's in balance, at least. :D

When I was 19, my bro' and I tried to put a '49 Olds 303 into my '40 Ford cpe. using a Sears-Roebuck
rope hoist. We got it high enough to roll the car under it but before we could try to lower it in there
was a loud BANG and it was sitting on the cross member and tie rods! Never saw it fall!!
Just for fun I will attach a pic of my Triumph parked in the kitchen (before I was married).

I agree, different thing entirely. I just thought the bear attack suit was pretty damn funny. The best part is the line of "reasoning" behind it. Like you are REALLY gonna wear a suit like that while hunting or hiking in bear country??:p:rolleyes: I'll stick to pepper spray and a sawed off 10 gauge thanks.
