Yes that line is thin. But if you nail it the result tend to be great.
And yes. That dash looks killer.

  2. Eric and BLUEONE , I have the shifter out of a bottle, genie in my 39 ford on a 700 r . Yes it is a spring friction gate shifter and I manually shift all the time and no missed shifts yet after 6 years . My shifter install with a heavy shift knob and no problem . Blue image.jpg

Thanks Eric, I like the spring loaded gated shift pattern idea. Looks easier to use than the Lokar even with a kit to push down the whole knob rather than the little button.
I'll have to look into it.
One question, does the shift lever swivel at the base like the Lokar ?
I am using a 12" tall shift lever rather than the tall one and I need to swing it slightly toward the passenger side for my leg. :) Not a lot, maybe 1 1/2" or so.

Again, thank you. My ideas, but it's Bob's excellent craftsmanship.
Good to know Blue, thanks. I've never heard someone with a Gennie complain about them.
Yes Larry, it swivels some at the bottom and locks with two set screws, unlike the the Lokar which does it with a jam nut. That's the one thing that I do see that Gennie could improve on, but once I get everything together I'm sure it'll be perfectly solid. So to answer part two, yes, you can certainly rotate it a little left or right. If there's not enough play I'm sure you could elongate the detent holes on the top of the shifter to suit your needs.

On to today's progress! Don't get excited, very little was accomplished.

After a lengthy BS session with Bob and a few of his grandkids Austin and I decided to see how the dash looked in the car.

    1442118144785.jpg
And a couple shots to give Victoria an idea of what the celluloid will look like.

    1442118258216.jpg
Bob started the final body work on the doors, trunk and grill shell. He wants to get them painted before it gets too cold.
    1442118336871.jpg
Of course the door jambs have to look good too.
    1442118375094.jpg
One of the brackets made for the frame was ready for attention, but strangely didn't fit anymore. I guess that's what two paint jobs will do? Austin got started making it fit by removing paint.

    1442118539302.jpg
And after removing all of the clear, paint, primer, clear, paint, primer, filler and etching primer we still had to grind the inside surfaces of the bracket. Yeah, seriously. I don't have a clue. Maybe someone fed it after midnight or something. But this is the bracket that will hold the delron bushing and bell crank for the brakes.

Yep that's all. Mundane, menial tasks towards getting the project done. There's no way we'll be at GNRS 2016. But LARS is a different story....

  6. Mundane and menial tasks maybe, but still great to see all these pieces of the puzzle taking their place. Good to see safety goggles being worn.:cool::D:D JW

I had posted the above photo of my son on Instagram for a t-shirt contest The Rodders Journal was having. @BCCHOPIT saw it and wanted to send Austin one of his shirts, how cool is that? Thanks again Bill!

I worked on the car Saturday afternoon for a few hours. Nothing really worth taking pictures of, but I drilled and tapped a few holes on the frame, build a template for the rear floor pan, and got ready to make two new rear body mounts. I also wet sanded a few small areas that I will buff later this week.

Bob has been preparing the doors for paint. Strangely enough, we knew we had two different doors but we never realized just how different they were. One door has access holes stamped for hinge bolt access, the other door had no ring around the top edge of the door like Model T's usually do. Someone had previously built that up with bondo. Are there early and late model T doors?

Access holes stamped in inner structure.
    1442853882209.jpg

    This one has no holes.
    1442853915956.jpg

They also have different character lines stamped into the door edges. They're significantly different. Like reproduction different. Good thing you can't see both sides of the car at the same time, LMAO.

    Drivers side.
    1442854062209.jpg

    Passenger side.
    1442854090571.jpg

Anybody know Model T door history that can educate me?

  10. 26 and 27 doors are different. The four big holes in the inner panel are smaller on the 26 (2'' and 3'') and don't have the hinge access. I believe mine are 27 but im still calling it a 26 as that's what my paper work said. Oh and cool shirt.:D JW

The mismatched doors now match. Three coats of high build primer.

Nothing more to report on the T, but the shop I discussed months ago may be happening sooner than anticipated.

I'm doing a refi on the house and the broker suggested I wrapped something else up in with it. They said, "Can you add another room or something?" Hell, I can add 2020 feet!

So I cranked these quickie drawings out this morning. They'll have to go to an architect for real work, truss plans, engjneering, etc., but this should convey most of what I want.

Too damn long since I sat down and did any artwork. Forgot a lot of techniques, markers have dried up, couldn't find my good paper, etc. Oh well, this is a rough draft. Still need to add my 120 and 240 outlets, water on front and sides, but it's a good start.

I'm up for suggestions too. The "workshop" will actually be the office where my wife and I will spend the majority of our days. The "storage area will house the inventory for her online boutique. The shop's all mine.

Yes, Jeremy, STEAK! Big, juicy, thick medium rare steaks! Better not cancel your trip this year! I'm not much for making things like salads or potatos, maybe Victoria will do those. I can make a meal out of steak alone!

Thanks fellas, I hope this happens quickly as I have several things that need to fall into place to make it happen.

Good point. I was thinking that also. The 10 feet at the rear of the shop is a bit low for a lift.

  26. That's stinkin' cool, Eric. If that isn't a '50s FINA gas station I'll eat my hat!

Well, it would seem my concerns about the height of the shop were somewhat misplaced. Less than 500 feet from my house a neighbor has this monster going up! I'm sure those are 18' doors.
    1443407884044.jpg

I rarely drive that direction through the neighborhood so I hadn't seen it.

Thanks Andy, and you may want to hide your hat! Of course the idea was to invoke a classic gas station look to it, but I also didn't want to go overboard to a point where it would detract from the overall look and value of the property. I figured I could put up a few vintage signs, my old Wayne gas pump and a few oil racks to make me smile. If we ever sell I don't want to scare potential buyers with an old gas station in the back yard, ya know?

Beleive it or not, THIS was the photo that inspired the current design. My mom sent it to me on Facebook a month or two ago and I've been stewing on it.
    1443408179885.jpg

Yeah, I know, nothing like it in my drawing, but it's what got my gears turning.

In large part (again) I have @da34guy to thank. Months ago I threw a sketch up with basically the same floor plan (I've moved a few things since) and in true Don fashion he said something like "Man, that's an ugly building!" And he was right. Asshole. Don and I are good friends, we can get away with that!

Now I must admit I googled FINA gas stations and as much as I'd like to incorporate some of those design elements I just can't see how to do it cost effectively. Can you imagine how cool a round glass office would be!? Or a cool mid-century modern zigzag roof line?
    1443408956946.jpg
    1443408898242.jpg

So don't BBQ that hat juuuust yet, there's surely more to come!

Looking at that other big shop right next to you Eric has me thinking that you need to change your design a bit and gain some height.
Can't let your shop be dwarfed by the other one ;) :D

Good time to raise the roof, so to speak, during the planning stage! You can keep a lot of the same design elements and you could do an octagon shaped office protruding enough to get that effect, wouldn't have to be round, would it?
