Not a great photo but historically it's way cool. This is half mile drags on Brighton sea front in September 1932 with a crude christmas tree start. Nobody would have heard the expressions 'drag race' or 'hot rod' at this time but that's Sir Malcolm Campbell and John Cobb in stripped down roadsters, essentially drag racing and both men went on to hold the World Land Speed record. They sure sound like hot rodders to me!

Borradori Garage is the coolest easily accessible building on the West Coast.
Here is one from Wish I Was Going thread that tells it all.

Sitting on a prominent hillside overlooking the Cayucos Pier and a distant Morro Rock is the historic Borradori Garage. Originally built in 1932 along the Roosevelt Highway, the automobile repair garage was named the Roosevelt Garage. In 1949 when the State of California realigned Highway 1, it purchased the property and the garage. However, Sam Borradori immediately bought the building back, moving the structure slightly to its present location at 455 N. Ocean Blvd.

I just wish I had a higher resolution version of it so I could have a print made. I'm pretty sure I found it on here years ago.
