i know most guys run a larger wheel in the back but was curious if anyone runs the same size wheel front and rear and stool achieve a nice rake?
I've cut 1 coil and have 2" dropped spindles setup in the front and 2" blocks in the back. Curious to know if I can get a nice mellow rake without the need for a larger wheel/tire in the back.

Drop the front tire a size or two on the same size rim for a very subtle difference in stance.

Thanks missysdad1. I'm curious as to why a lot of guys have a larger rear wheel?

I'd say no on American hot rods and race cars, for the most part. But ok for sports rods and customs. You can get your rake with rubber, or just start with the wheels and tires you want regardless of their sizes (always a very good idea) and build the rake into the frame as you fabricate it so the body sits like you want. So for the wagon. Suggestions would be the same wheel size with a smaller tire up front. That should give it a subtle rake.
Hot rods are the ideal candidate for the big littles.
Any other examples of same wheel sized cars?

  14. both cars we have, have the same size so you can actually do a full rotate to wear them evenly

Definitely looking at a custom setup. Might take the advice of the majority and same wheel different tire size.

  16. Mine are the same size rim as well, with big n little rubber 11807738_917721544937844_5902720686056172867_o.jpg

  17. Re-reading your question, you will find that the majority of cars have the same diameter wheel front and back and rake is achieved through tire size as well as other factors. Look at every hotrod with '40 ish wheels, they are 16" front and back, tire size however is always different.

Hot rods look really good either way.
That totally makes more sense to me now DeLuxe.

  19. I ran several sets of wheels on my 54 Chevy 210. Best looking set was 7 and 5" wheels with 195s front and cheater slicks or equivalent 235s rear. Sat fairly low witha nice rake.

  20. You don't have to have a rubber rake if that is what you are asking. You can do it all with suspension.

I'm running 16" wires on both my cars and the rake comes from big and little tires. As a side note, went from Excelsior bias ply tires to radials on the roadster and the rake all but disappeared. However, it drives and handles much better.

  22. Why did you ditch the Excelsiors ? Which Im sure are not bias ply.

Running 16 x 4 1941 (no, not 1940) original Fords front and rear, 450s and 750s. This setup gives me all the rake I need.

For the guys w same wheel size all around on your cars and wagons, are your rear wheels a wider width?

  28. I usually run fatter tires on the rear then on the front, it is hard to find tires the outside diameter in different widths though. Normally the narrow tires are shorter then the wider ones unless you use different aspect ratios on a radial or different manufacturers on a bias ply.
