...and it looks like the body is ready to go, as well. The hard stuff is done, this should only take a few weeks

  5. Dave,...are those Speedway fenderwell headers?

  6. Yes Speedway headers
I had thought New Years Day would be nice for a drive...........
Don, if I get the "more powerful" SBC:) mid November. I should be able to have a drive shaft early December.

  7. I was lucky to find this car in this condition less than 50 miles away. The one hidden PITA is he didn't strip and treat the underside of the floor so I need to do that before I go too far. I kept this car in paid storage until I could build a small barn because it had to be bought. The gasser idea hit when I brought it to the barn.

  10. Hey Don or anyone else who knows... In the mid 60s what did the gas cars use guage wise? Did they run stock clusters with a tach on top of the column or dash? Or replace the cluster with individual guages?

Here ya go Matt, I just made a thin .060 tk alum panel to fit in the stock location and put in the S-W gauges with the Sun Tach on the dash

With the Tach mounted there it is closer to your line of sight

My Anglia has an aluminum firewall (and has since the 60's) with Stewart Warner gauges in the dash (Oil press, Water Temp, and Volt) and a Sun tach up on the cage.

  14. Very neat interior shot. That's similar to what i was planning dash wise

  15. What diameter tube bumper?

  16. I used 3" pipe which is 3.5" outside diameter. Plumbers call the pipe threaded on both ends a nipple regardless of length. Paid $87 for the 4 foot nipple and $20 for the caps.

For some un-known reason I could not get the tach to work using the Vertex Mag, so I just pulled the lever when if felt right and ran it 4 yrs that way

Kind of a seat of the pants deal and it worked out ok, since you get to know your car very well in a short period of time

Power would fall off when you rev it past what the valve springs can take, eh? :)

Neat picture! were the door windows mounted solid? I like the plain door panels

    Hi Jim

With the mild cams we had a couple hundred rpm's either way did not matter that much, like I was saying you get to know your and how it feels and when to pull the lever

The side windows were 1/8 clear plex screwed to the door, saved a lot of weight by taking out all the window stuff and the little wind wing too

The door panels were made out of replacement embossed cardboard for the older cars rear package tray, after cutting them to shape I had trim tape sewed on around the edge and hit them with a few coats of clear spray to protect the finish and look better

For a metal door you could not make it any lighter and still look pretty classy too, used the same stuff behind the seats to finish the rear of the interior also as I was not a fan of all alum interior

Cause this things were spossed to look like a streeter and I was trying to stick to the Spirit of a Gasser,

A race car and street car both as that is how they started out in the 50's, and I did not want the Gasser Police to bust me for going way too far in the build

  20. That guy is my hero!!

  21. I like it! Right to the point.

  22. Where ats you by the nipple?

  23. Thomas Somerville a big plumbing supply vender in St Marys. They got it from Baltimore.

Didnt buy the caps through them. Cheaper online.

From another website and good for a bump. I have never seen a Destroked 265.
"Ran mostly at Lions, Bakersfield Fuel and Gas Championship and NHRA Winternationals in the ’60’s. Many time bracket winner, AHRA record holder, Class winner at Bakersfield. Check out those ladder bars!

Hilborn injected 258″ small block. This was a destroked 265″ with one of the first sets of Warren Brownfield’s (AFR) cast iron heads and an Engle R600 roller. Ran a best of 11.72 @ 116 mph with 9:1 compression (blower pistons and no money to jack-up the compression). I ran a B&M Clutchflite with 6.14 gears and 27″ tires." This car belonged to Ed Middlebrook.
