Jim is by the brake, Dode in the cockpit

 

Not sure, but think that this is Joe Winters...Joe lost a leg to cancer, but, once fitted with an artificial leg, got back in the cockpit...I am not sure on this, though...anyone else?


The late Lonnie Butts, who ran this Fiat C/C for years, in the Pomona pits...it would advance from chain to Gilmer drive, zoomie headers, but the body stayed...Notice what he used for front axle weights...I think he was from Pico Rivera...(notice Boyd Penington's red gas roadster behind, and the Dragmaster Dart to the left) ...this photo from the George Klass collection.


Also from George Klass...this might be Helen Root in the street roadster she and husband Bart built...drag strip looks like Colton.

Track is obvious, but don't know whose car this is...looks like a really tall roll bar...probably the parade lap before eliminations...


Another no ID, anyone? Thanks again to Church Key: Jack Doyle's Slider AA/D... Don Roberts was the regular driver. Marty Schwartz filled in for the 69 season while Don was in the service.


Dick Guyette's "Isky Clown," from North Hollywood, blown Potvin Olds on gas, bright orange. Isky took advantage of Howard Cam's ad attacking the "5-Cycle" cam Isky claimed to have. The Howard ad showed four bicyclists demonstrating the 4 cycles, with a clown on a bicycle labeled "fifth cycle." Isky, touting Cyr & Hopper's Isky-cammed car winning the '58 NHRA Nationals, took out his own ad claiming that Cyr & Hopper "were happy as clowns" to win. The slogan stuck, and Guyette named his car after it.


Don Prudhomme tries out his former Ivo Buick car at Riverside. I'm not sure who he is racing but it might be fellow Road Kings club members Janke and Muravez TE-440 blown Chevy car. This is probably in the spring as all that grass in the background was brown by June.


Not sure on this, maybe a couple of top gassers, Bill Dunlap near lane??


Don Montgomery, on here as "Rockerhead"....I think that this might have been his last race car in a series that goes back to the First Drag Race at Goleta, CA in 1948. Hudsons, Cords, the famous '32 coupe with the GMC and later blown Chrysler, etc...we are all richer for his books and his history, not to mention his contributions on the HAMB. Don converted this car for street use after its racing days.

In the post above that digger looks to have a Pontiac engine , and a very strange looking front axle !!!

First time I have seen one shaped like that ?

That is what's neat about this thread, you just never know what you going to see next that was built in the good old days

 

I believe that is the one and only Eddie Hill. But I've been wrong before.

 

There is also something weird about that injector hat, I tried enlarging it but not very clear. Kinda looks like one big "barn door". ??? Scott, Algon???

The 'rake' on the injector looks to be greater than the 'rake' on the engine. Maybe that's how it was designed. Have never seen one like it. The header flanges look sufficient. Doesn't look like Eddie Hill in the seat. Maybe somebody out there has got some history on this machine.

I remember Deb's well. They were a great old speed shop.

The front wheels are maybe Harley 16" ..... they are shorter than most and the tire looks little wider..

 

Its amazing that those little fronts could handle that kind of speed , and not fly apart as they were going quite a bit faster than a Harley would run in those days

 

Check the toe-in on the front end--no wonder that this car and the similar Terrifying Toronado were pigs to drive.
