This will be my first build ever so I'm happy to say I got a good starting point! I'll start with a few pics of when it was still in the barn for 34 years.
The whole car is in great shape to start with. It was built at the Windsor, Ontario plant and was in Canada til about 1961 when my father in law bought it for $800 bucks. He drove it for a few years during the spring and summer and then parked it because he had a Model a truck and had just purchased a 1930 rumble seat coupe. I looked at it for a few years and said I would take it off his hands when he didn't want it anymore! He still wanted it!!! But... I somehow came back with a trailer and loaded it up! Ha ha He's a little older and probably wouldn't be able to mess with it anyways so with a tear in his eye he shook my hand and said "I know it's in good hands and you'll make it nice gain."
Keeping it stock for a while. It's in really good shape so I want to enjoy driving it around original for a few years I think.
" Picked it up outside of Detroit and brought her back to Florida to get to work!" That's the first time I've heard of a guy from Florida going to Detroit to buy a car. Usually the other way around.
Good for You! They are only original once! It isn't too often that You find them as complete and solid as that! It will be good to get it runnin and bomb around!
That's a nice starting point! Looks solid. A small drop in the front axle, spring change, wheel change and carb+ ignition upgrade and that thing would go, and look the part! Have fun and enjoy. There was a manifold avalible for two updraft carbs. Nice and simple upgrate. http://www.macsautoparts.com/ford_...ance-distributor-6-volt-positive-ground.html http://www.macsautoparts.com/store...kage-usa-made.html/?crosssell=Product_Viewed And maybe one of these guys can drop front axle for you. But other then that I would drive it stock and do it a lot!
Took apart the rear hubs the other day and found that the threaded part of the spindle is bend pretty bad. Maybe someone didn't know how to use a puller correctly? I'm going to use the old bearing pack because they looked really good! Just a small bit of rust on one spot from when it was sitting that came right off with some steel wool. I'm just going to replace the metal grease seals because the rubber is mostly missing.
I started taking out the gas tank but for the trouble you have to go through to get it out it doesn't look as bad as I first thought. I think I'll just keep an eye on the fuel bowl to see if anything comes through besides fuel.
I do have a question. I didn't get an ignition key with the car because it was lost years ago and it's got the original pop out what should I do? Replace the whole switch or is there a way to get the switch out of the housing without the key?
Yeah, I'd leave the tank in. You could always run some gas through it and see what comes out before hooking it to the carb. Is that original paint on the body?
I did get all new fuel lines from the shut off valve to the carb... Which is 2 very short lines. LoL And I'm going to put an extra filter on it as well!
Well your radiator is a little different then mine. Looks like you are hard after it. don't burn out in the first 20 minutes.
