My father-in-law found these back sections. One looks to be 30-31 Ford four door, but what is the sedan? The side window has a different shape?
Interesting, I was thinking the two door was something different because of the weird shape to the side window. A buddy said Ford didn't have the wood under the windows like that either.
The 4 dr is a Ford model A , the 4 doors, vickys, sport coupe all have wood framework. The 2 dr. looks like a 1930 Franklin, the belt line and window corner matches the photo in my spotters guide.
Have pictures in my spotters guide, don't have a scanner to copy with. I did find some factory photos on E-bay for 29 and 30 Franklins, take a look at them. My guide shows late 28 thru 30 using the same body. The shape of the belt line at the rear/bottom of the window is very unique, I found a couple other that point forward like that but thy have double beltlines.
That's for certain. I can imagine all the head scratching when people try to figure out what it is. I had never even heard of a Franklin.
Franklin started in 1902 a year before Ford. Most people don't realize there were over 800 different car companies, the depression wiped out most of them. The Franklin was one of those victims, 1934.
Sweet deal, thanks for the info! Hopefully I'll be bringing it home soon and making it into a Frankford. That is if we can't find the cowl......
A lot of cars got cut off to make trucks especially during the WWII years. Many light trucks in that era had the same chassis as passenger cars of the same make. That probably accounts for why the front part of the bodies is missing.
Yes, I have the remains of a 28 Essex 4dr. and had a 37 Nash coupe that was made into a farm truck. I heard that during the war, trucks got more gas rations than cars and many farmers cut up their old cars into trucks.
