Recent estate sale find. The '32 roadster is a Ford promo item like John's above; this was the '64 offering - unbuilt and complete (molded in black with the note from Ford inside). The '49 Ford is the early suicide-door version and the Rambler is one of the nicest I've seen - never been played with in a sandbox. Best part was I got them for a total of $9.00!
Just went thought the whole thread... you guys are talented...will have to dig up some of my old builds...
Those are trick hinges, James. Lookin good! My '30 build is plodding along. Here's the frame mocked up and the intake with linkages:
Great looking rolling chassis, really like the intake set-up. Outstanding detail. Where did the rear tires on this come from? Nice looking builds posted on here, I need to get back on about a dozen I have started.
Was just thumbing through the July, 1964 Rod & Custom and saw this AMT insert. Thought you guys might enjoy it and remember how many of the '64 releases you built.
Working on a model of my 31 A Ford coupe. Started with a die cast model A bank. After stripping it down and converting back to a 5 window it appears to share the same dies as the Monogram plastic kit. The unchopped plastic top fits right on the die cast body. Now I have to decide if I'm going to build the model like the real car or build the real car like the model. Does anyone of a kit that has Guide headlights as pictured ?
Thanks TN, the tires on this one originate in the MPC '32 Chrysler Imperial, and possibly a few other kits. That kit has wire wheels; if you want steelies the Monogram '41 Lincoln will fit. The Revell '30 Ford Touring has Guide headlights like those. It's the only kit I know of that has them, but they're well done. That kit also has a tripower SBC intake and Cragar Star wire wheels, which can be handy for other builds. The only catch is the kit's 1/24, but that works well with the Monogram-based '30 you're building. I see the metal bank appears to have some belt-line detail that the plastic kit lacks....interesting. *Edit: and it appears you're pretty much building my dream car, there. Nice!
Thanks for the info Spex. I was trying to remember where I`d seen guide headlights in a kit, I have that kit and couldn`t remember until you posted.
I also like working with the diecast models and have found the same similarity with the plastic molds. Building a model helps with design ideas on full size builds. I have models of most of the 37 Chevy cars and trucks I have owned. A current Malibu 2door Wagon conversion I am doing started with combining a diecast car with the plastic top from a Revelle model kit.
Would be an interesting thread to see model cars of actual cars we have or have had with side by side pictures. I have about a dozen or so.
Interesting project, 41 C28! Sure looks like the makers of the diecast copied the Monogram kit! Great stuff Joker, Spex 84, and 2002p51! My '59 Ford Sunliner mild custom is completed at last!
I will, I just have to get em out and dust the patina (dust) off and shot some pics. Have some ot non HAMB friendly examples such as my 96 Astro Van and 87 T-Bird replicas.
