It would go like stink...;). 390s in 55/6 Fords are pretty common, so I'd think a 429, essentialy the same block, would fit using the same parts/modifications. There's a thread on this forum about the swap.

I have a 460 (same block as a 429) in my 55. Mine has a gearheads from North Dakota kit installed. Gearheads is now out of business as the owner p***ed. Stock exhaust manifolds on mine pleanty of steering clearance

FPA makes A TRI y headers but they are only 1 3/4". Not sure what they do for mounts.

I have the crites kit. The trans x member is for a C6 but I plan on using an AOD. They use 2" headers.

Crites makes it when you order it so it usually takes 6 weeks. Some people have taken longer but I have had good luck with Crites.

    390's are nothing like a 460.

I didn't say they were; I said 390s and 429s are similar. They're both FEs.

    460 (385) will fit.....but its a LOT of work!
I used FPA headers. Had to modify them to fit the '55. I called and left a message with FPA that they could use mine to build a jig for the 55-56's. I thought that would be a good deal for them (shipping cost) but no reply. I used crites motor mounts. First I was double charged for the mounts. It seems that "motor mounts" means each. Lady I talked to couldn't possibly care less. I called for a quick question on the mounts and never got a call back. I will avoid them if at all possible. Had to modify one the mounts for the FPA headers but like one piece instead of the crites slip fit. I have a TKO 5 speed and did not have to cut out the X member. I just cut and rewelded the original ****** mount. As for weight, I used aluminum heads, intake, etc and just put it on the floor....no change in height at all. What brackets are you using for the alt and power steering?

I used Concept One and had them anodize in blue. I did receive an A/C pump that did not have threads where they were supposed to be. That was replaced promptly. The bolts for the crank pulley were incorrect thread. One thing that did dampen the experience was that they stood me down that the A/C DID have the threads and that the bolts were correct. Neither was the case. I ended up buying the correct bolts for the crank pulley from Lowes. At the price I paid, I didn't care for that. Parts were fine other wise, look and fit perfectly.
