Sancho started a thread on the Hentzel car just last week. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/full-fendered-t-roadster-truck-circa-1954.994067/
Love all the blacck & white pics of actual 50's hot rods from back in the day, but I can't help but feel that none of them would rate a 2nd look at any of the cruise's or meets I've been out to here in So Cal, if it aint a street rod or a rat rod nobody seems to care. Hey So Cal guys, where are the traditional rod runs?
Pretty sure this cars pink. I think theres a color shot in one of Southards books. I'll check it out later and see if I can confirm its the same car.
Hope you find it! I can't take credit for posting, the pictures were over on the "days gone by" photo thread along with some pics of a killer early 60s T Bucket. Not sure which 'bucket thread to re-post those to...
Yup, same car. From Andy Southards book "Hot Rods of the Fifties". Described as belonging to Johnny Weston of Richmond CA, shot at the '56 Oakland Roadster Show. Check the "Tommy the Greek" striping on the cowl and the upholstery, '56 Ford wheelcovers instead of the Lancers, but no doubt, this is the same car.
Thanks - that is so sweet! The "snow" pattern even looks the same, wonder if they swapped wheel covers during the show?
Thirty five minutes. Two thousand one hundred seconds. That's the amount of time spent weeding out the bullshit posts in this thread (and that's just the last 4 pages)... This is a traditional hot rod and custom message board. This thread deals with 1950's period-correct (period perfect) hot rods and is in the period perfect section of our traditional hot rods and custom message board. If you are here to justify/discuss billet, radial tires, 350's, MII IFS, t-5's, modern disc brakes, shitty construction, or modern fiberglass bodies, you are in the wrong place. Check your ego or get the f- off my message board. Apologies for the language...you guys have the social forums to discuss that stuff. Leave the period correct focused areas alone and there will be no trouble; tread on this place and you'll get your ass banned.
Ok, I know the pic I am about to post isn't a '50s hot rod, but I hope the mods will bear with me here. If you read the text on the Model A coupe above, it says its Sarasota Green. This is 1952 Cadillac Sarasota Green... So look at this pic, and look at the pic of the Model A coupe above, and imagine what this car looked like in colour with the chrome wheelcovers, cowl band and so on. You gotta figure the motor was probably dark green. Pretty bitchen!
I was gonna guess this was a new build, but the spring in front has me second guessing that? Maybe an old build that has been "updated" in the last ten years?
I missed the spring ahead, and I know why...... That super short radiator hiding behind a taller grille shell is not really typical for around northeast . (the norm was a tall rad mounted futher forward) So, if it is a steel body and an old build, it's been cleaned up in a few details, including the finned brakes Either way, it's really nice Some older builds from flathead days(in my area), did get sbc's, etc, as the cars got upgraded or sold I really like chop/channel w/spring ahead.... I can't change...heck, I don't want to change
my favorite pictures are the ones that show the person who built/drove the car at the time sorry if some of these have been posted
Good catch. I missed the Nelson boys.....too busy looking at the car. That was a quick edit to your sig line !
Its a great line, I had to add it. I don't know how long I can keep it up there, my signature line is full, and I still need more parts... And that La Masa car could be the poster child for this thread!
I built my 38 Ford standard as a 50's era hotrod even though my "era" was the 60's. It is an all steel 38 no fiberglass. It has all original hardware, dash gauges, 39 trans, 40 rear end, 6 volt through out. Houdille knee action shocks, dropped Henry axle, transverse springs etc. See attached, note the battery is an Optima (38 era case) tires are new Michelins not 50 ish. Please tell me if there is something obviously not 50 ish!
I like the era close tire sizes. I'm quickly getting more and more tired of looking at overly big and overly littles. I still love channeled equally or more than chops. To end, I'm looking forward to a spring move in my future.
