  1. Can you imagine what that guy would have said if someone told him what his grille and grayhound would be worth someday?

Sweet! Thanx guys there was a few pics that I hadn't seen before! I love my phaeton and have always wanted one, I cant wait to get it on the road next spring but it should be done for the big indoor car show this winter here in Alberta. Its got a 59a with a 39 toploader in it and its going to be Mulberry Maroon with black stock interior. Keep the pics coming though!

Ya gotta love the tubs! ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1445590891.289102.jpg

  7. I've always loved em, don't recall how many Monogram 1/24th scale Model A kitsets I built as a kid, and i let a mate store his real 28 Model A Tub in my shed for almost a year, a few years back
So I like em, but had never considered if they were traditional or not.
Thanks for this thread, very cool to see the early black n grey pics.

  8. That is the HUGE advantage of tubs; you can get the whole family out for a ride!

When you get to the main hotrod years of '28-32, their use is not common compared to roadsters, but is probably roughly in proportion to availability...by the end of Model T days, the Phaeton was a dying breed. The sedan was taking over as the normal family car, as steel body framing and then safety glass eliminated the earlier objections to the family sedan and also lowered the price...even the four door became cheap and relatively safe.
Roadsters carried on fairly well for a while because they were sporty, but no one wanted to haul his family in an open car anymore. Sales were supported a bit in export...warm weather and slow adoption of new fashions kept the phaeton trade alive in the tropics while it withered here.
You can't find a period of hotrodding without phaetons lurking in the pictures!
Someone...quick!!...post the R&C cover of the beater '32 phaeton full of...

  14. I was just looking for that one! How about Diamond Dave? image.jpeg

This one a bit more appropriate...

Not a "real" tub but still neat! *edit! Apperantly it is a real tub. The webernet source from which it was gleaned said otherwise. My apologies!*

What's not real about it? It's a real Model A two door phaeton.

It is just plain a Ford deluxe phaeton. Slanty windshield and posts and deuce shell are the only big mods.

  21. Thanks for the clarification...that windshield totally threw me for a loop

  22. Me too!

The closed car windshield is really neat!

  23. The dip in the beltline around the rear gives it away. That is specific to the two door model A phaeton.

A yellow 27 T-Phaeton was good enough for Annette Funicello and Frankie Avalon in the movie "Beach Party" , I guess its Good enough for the H.A.M.B. That movie was in 1963 ............. Jeff
