1 and #2 set were demostrators , #3 (engine only) all 3 ended up as the peoria rockets ( jet rockets) for RI , this one is in st louis ,[IMG]
I thought it was the one in Green bay which is # 2 http://www.nationalrrmuseum.org/explore/exhibits/the-aerotrain/

the one in Green bay is a complete original set ( gm bodys ) , the one in St louis uses acf cars they had built trying to smooth out the ride , but its the pensy #1 engine .

I talked to my neighbor who is a retired RI passenger/metra engineer and he said the Aeros were used on the PeoRocket till the mid 60's and used in commuter service when needed which was mostly winter ( when I saw it ) in the 70s till RI went under.

Don't regret much, but in the sixties we did torch off the noses from a couple of swoopy White and Autocar tractors to get the radiators out for scrap.

    Amazing...Love the Art Deco era.
Few years back, I saw an old '40s armored car. ('39 Ford chassis, armored body, 1/2" glass everywhere)
The owner wanted to sell it, but he said there was a Calif. (perhaps even Federal) law stating old armored cars must be returned to their place of origin, for updating or scrap.
Government was worried about bad guys getting impenetrable transports?

The only one I saw in 'private' use was the one on the TV series "Ironside", where Police Commissioner Ironside had use of it for his 'rolling office'.
A friend working as a Gaffer said the truck developed a cracked block, and was 'retired' to be replaced by the late Ford panel.
Anyone ever see an old armored car that was 'obtainable'?
Was the rumor true about a governmental restriction?
