  1. I got my bias skinnys mounted to the beanies.
Not on the "critical path" to moving on its own power New Years weekend but motivating like the pipe bumper.

Took them on a test drive on my coupe today and they feel good.

Don, not much to share but I picked up an old mechanical rev limiter for the mag on my 409. The Pontiwilly will be in the shop by the years end for mock up and crossmember install. That's it for now, Gary

    Hi Dave

Have you thought about running your ex pipe right off of the collector, instead of a side pipe as when they are corked up they run pretty bad that way

    Been there done that, Don

    Hi Gary

Wished I had one of those in my 37' since the Sun tach never worked with the Vertex, just pull the lever when it felt right sorta like seat of the pants stuff

Like Hans Stuck the LeMans pilot used to say ' You feel it with your PO-PO ' !!!

    Later, Don

Not sure I understand? My plan is to use it uncorked only at the track, keeping it closed and muffled on the streets. Are you thinking turbulence will affect street use? Does this pic help?

  5. Don did a lot of the gas cars run fenderwell headers that were open or did they have exhaust? I know your 57 had exhaust but what about the 37 and others?

Also what intakes were common, hilborn and 2x4 but what about 3x2, 4x2 or 6x2 or others ?

Dave if you could make your muffler brackets flex a bit , you could hook your ex pipe right on the header collector then take out the bolts and move it over to clear the header opening and use one or two bolts to hook it up again

Then you have the best of the two worlds , both corked & open

If it sounds confusing send me a pm with a fax number and I can send a drawing to clear it up

Matt they were all open fender well ex as none of the top cars were street driven, like some of todays street gassers are being built

As far as an intake it all depends on where you wanted to run in the class, I wanted to have a serious runner so I planned on Hilborns from the start cause that was the best in 64'

I'am sure not a thing has changed in 50 yrs the fastest guys are not street driven, built for racing only for the most out of your car & engine

That tack is from the mid 60's with that Moroso decal on it which I believe is from the time period when he store was on Puttnam Ave. in Greenwich.
They were made by Jones Motorola in Stamford, Ct. This company used to make all the techs for submarines for years. We went over there a few times to look around back in the 60's

Matt if one of us guys that were hanging out at Bob's in 60' were building a streeter like your's, we would get a 283 - 270 hp engine with the two 4 barrels and the Duntov cam

As that was the engine we all had in our tri 5 chevys, Larry Dixson sr had a green 55' that won C/gas each week at San Fernando at about 99-101 witch was plenty fast even for today

Just stick those carbs & cam in a newer bigger engine and you will be styling, as a 283 would be rusted out - cracked etc

And that was the real deal, like they say ' Been There Done That ' Don

  11. My SBC will be a dual carb iron head little runner!
I realize the new stuff doesn't look like the 60's but the spirit will be in mine.

Looks like back in the day when a portion (10% if I remember right) HAD to pass through the muffler system.

Looks to be about time for lighting off the heaters for winter time gasser building

I used to have a little twin burner kerosene job I bought from Sears, it helped but it sure did burn up the kerosene

Then I bought a solvent tank and got rid of that fire burner , and got a little electric portable and put it next to where I was working and it did OK

I was warm but the 37' & tools were still cold

Oh the joys of hot rodd'n and the stuff we go through, neat memories to last your life time

In mid 70's, two car garage, with 50k salamander ducted to use 75% outside air..Thermostat set at 50° and timer to turn on 1/2 hr before I went out there and off when time for me to go to work [2nd shift] so warm to start and I wouldn't have to remember to shut it down..Garage had shake shingles with the fiber board of the mid 50's underneath so some what insulated....I installed Dow Tuff-r type foam insulation for a ceiling when I discovered that the attic area got most of the BTU's..My W11 army jacket, knit beanie and rubbers with insulation [maybe something like Jute] inserts and I was pretty comfortable....

In 78' I built my new 750 ft shop with 10' high walls and a 16 ft by 8' high 4 panel roll up alum door

In the mourning I get the sun right on the door, boy you talk about an oven man that baby got hot

Got some 1 3/4 white foam and slid into the panels on the back side, and what a difference that foam made along with the insulated walls and alum foil in the ceiling

later I put up a 22 by 30 carport that covers where the door is and that really helped too , keeping this place from getting hot out here with our 100 + days

As I was typing my previous post I realized I was way more durable back then..By early 80's if it couldn't get down the hatchway into the cellar it didn't get worked on during the cold months. I made a set up with a engine type hoist that I put a winch on moved around by my garden tractor to lower stuff down the hatchway, welder, torches, what ever..When I moved here in the late 80's I built a 24' x 26' over the existing garage just to hold my cars and then insulated and heated the bottom garage for the work part..Around 04' I thought that I needed a lift so built an 20' x 28' addition with 12' ceiling [could have done 14', er, should have] on the back side and of coarse heated, took me a few years to get inside done and lift installed..Still other things that consume time get in the way, like better air lines and plumbing in the Sand blaster..I really wish I took some pics [wouldn't have to type so much!] through the years but I never thought I'd have a place to share my exploits...

LOL..Trees weren't supposed to grow like they have, the grower was surprised..He had told me to plant 30" apart but 60" would have been better! At least they keeping green and keep a lot of snow from in front of the garage doors...

  24. Don, great question! Laugh if you will but picking a color is the hardest thing for me.
Also, sorry, Not clear why I have lost track of this thread.

Body back on frame. Minor frame mods complete. Ford 9 fit for rear. Bottom painted. Engine being built this week, dyno'd next. Trans arrives tomorrow. Hopefully so does radiator so I can work the frame and grill shell mods Saturday.

Like I did with the 37' painted that 56' Chrysler Met Blue, looked great hooked up and being towed with a rope in the pits too

    Just a thought, Don

37 PLYMOUTH GASSER 2.jpg Fenderwell headers a must for sure.
Serious rubber in the back and skinnies in front.
Changing the oil with out having to jack up the car.
Seeing blue sky in front of you driving instead of blacktop. You can figure that one out.

  30. Actually I have thought of that! I have a 2015 RAM so it wont change for a long time. It is dark blue flake so it would look good on the 39.
