  2. I don't either. M/T ran a similar car with f-85 aluminum olds motors, but captions from the day say Pontiac. (Two To Go site )

Most of the info I post is from memory, I was 12 when they ran that race!
    Read every magazine 2000 times.
Speaking of memory, it would be great to document these guys and others while we can! Are you listening NHRA? Sometimes I think we few that post are the only guys that care. ( photo by me!)

Gary, you are NOT the only ones that care. I was born on the right coast and had to rely on Hot Rod for my info and my mother threw them all away. THANKS to all you guys with real memories. BTW, notice the wrinkle in the front of the slick on MT's car. Didn't know they did that that long ago.

Cirino & Groves, Durfee Motors, from the El Monte area (Dean Lowe knows for sure)...this car was a regular for years at San Gabriel, unblown Olds, port-injected blown Olds, and finally this 4-holer blown Olds...

Between the Factory's and that stuff that M/T was making, there were quite a few different style's of heads being used on different race cars like at the Drags and the Indy & Sports racing cars too

This is a very faded Drag News photo, but I'm hoping that TTwoToGo will see it, because I could not find it on his twin-engine site...never seen this car before...another mixed twin. Photo from April 25, 1959 Drag News

Tried to match that color green over the years. Somehow couldn't. Really liked it at the time. Still do.

The first and only time I ever saw this car was at Pomona in about '61 or '62. In the pits, never ran that day, but blew everybody's mind. I think Don Borth did the sheet metal. The engineering and craftsmanship was stunning. Gene Mardon showed up at B-ville in'63 with a similar looking roadster. Looked it over and for some reason at the time, I thought it was a different car. Maybe it was the same car. Was I right or wrong? Anybody? Wonder if it's still around somewhere?

  26. The tube frame '29 you are referring to was the Mardon & Ohly LSR roadster. Herry Mardon's car with Gene Ohly engines. Harry worked at A&E sheet metal, about 3 blocks from our shop in So. El Monte. Gene Ohly started building engines at Earl Evans shop, about 6 blocks from us. He later bought the Evans shop, and ran it for years. To say Gene was good, is an understatement. His 255" SBC pushed the '29 to a 225 record average, on gasoline, it's first time on the salt in '61! This was not the Don Waite '29. Although, both cars were skinned at Don Borth's shop, in the same 1 mile circle as our shop, and the other shops mentioned here. FYI, Borth's shop was 2 doors down Rush street from Joe Gemsa's house/shop. In '59 we got to watch Fritz Voight build the Challenger in Borth's shop. There was a lot of hot rodding going on in South El Monte in the 60's! A lot to make a newly married, 20 something machinist/hot rodder late for dinner!

I was at El Mirage in the early 60's and Harry was making a run in the black ' Mardon & Ohly ' roadster, and about half way down the course it got loose and came around and Harry kept the throttle down to keep the rear tires spinning so as not to dig into the dirt and turn it over

When it was going straight again he put in the clutch jazzed the engine- clicked it off and parked the car

I heard that Gene was restoring it and maybe to run it in a vintage class ?

That trick roadster was one of my all time favorite lakes cars as it was built spot on the money, and way ahead of its time with the tube frame and great metal work
