The mechanical original style ford pumps work just fine. If you decide to go with an electrical be absolutely sure you use an in line regulator set at 2 lbs pressure.
Thanks so far. Had the mechanical pump installed and flooded the carbs.....so a regulator seems to be the way. Any electrical suggestions?[emoji4]
X2 on that one , especially the little round dial type regulators. We had no power , took a while to figure out we almost zero fuel pressure as the dial had self adjusted back way too much.
If your mechanical pump flooded the carbs ,you did something wrong...... You went to pendine this year with three hot rods that run mechanical pumps on 97s ............ Maybe call me?
We run a new mechanical fuel pump on our Holly 94 in the roadster and still use a regulator with a pressure gauge....
mechanical + good fuel line + good fuel hose from firewall to pump. I do not know right english word, but "flow" must be good. pressure is not so important.
TEST the pressure, mechanical vs electric means nothing! MANY currently available mechanical pumps come with diaphragm springs that are WAY too stiff and thus produce way too much pressure. I would assume they are using some common semi-modern spring like SBC, as many pump parts are interchangeable. Get your old pump out of the trash can and transplant its spring...you can tell if it's a low pressure one by just comparing effort to squeeze old and new spring by hand! I have heard that the Daytona carb parts place has proper pump parts and kits...no personal experience, but several recommendations by people I know. It's silly to put in a pump with wrong spring and then add $$ and extra junk to get back to usable!
