Don't do that, we are going to make the call tomorrow. If we do postpone it, it's going to be the next weekend november 14th. You can wait that long. But I'm doing a sun shine dance to cancel out Gab's rain dance so maybe it will work.

Just for that - I'm going to put the 467 in while Ric is here - you might see my bumper on the 14th o_O

We need a SEG suggested parts list - some stuff like 35 spline axles, sintered iron clutches, chromoly pinions, rear end housings - if you're not a racer, you tend to find out these things only after your Speedway or Summit brand stuff explodes. Quain does his best to answer my questions but a lot of times I didn't know the question

Maybe we can get Hightower to give us a shop tour :). I bet a bunch of the Georgia guys will roll up for that.

So I've been thinking about these original Halibrands on the front. Couple of times this year we watched a car skim a wall or flat out smack it. No one hurt - thank God - but the front rims never survive. These Circle Racing wheels match my rears better and are way cheaper than real magnesium ..... but they need to look magnesium

Carl told me to try the Blaster Graphite spray from Home Depot. Turned out pretty good so far.

That graphite works good I've used it on aluminum wheels also and my magnesium cower 8 port scoop. No one can tell the difference.

I can arrange the Hightower shop tour. Some were coming to my shop to hang out Sunday after the race but I don't know what the plans will be if we have to postpone the race.

Yea it would be bad to hurt the mags but nobody see's them setting on a shelf. Money can't buy my fronts because they were on Cromers car in the late 60s but they are staying on the car. I'll put then on the shelf when they get bent and are no good for anything else.

Tony, remember me on that Hghtower tour if it comes off and both Greer and Reynolds are rained out. Don't think I'll ever build anything strictly for dragging that will need such a box, but I have an intense interest in the manufacturing process after having spent so many years in machine shop work. One of my early jobs was in a gear and sprocket shop, and I also cut gears in machinist school.

That graphite trick may be the cats *** on my 6-71. I really wanted a different look.

Unfortunately if Greer gets pushed 1wk I can't make it.

Well bummer :( Greer Finals are postponed till the 14th. The only one smiling is The Southern Flyer because he couldn't make this weekend anyway. Hate to miss you next weekend Brand Apart.

In other news - the Run What You Brung race in Reynolds Ga is moved to December 5th. That's a nice track and my 467 should be swapped in by then :D

It rained like hell all day Saturday. The Border Bandits came all the way down from Wisconsin anyway, Ric Panneton flew out from SoCal, there was one from Arizona and one from Canada  so Quain set up a tour of the amazing Hightower Racing shop. It was a bummer about the rain but we all got to spend a lot of time bench racing and poking fun at Ric Panneton so it was all worth while. :) DOM was so excited to get to see the operation he called me at 5:45am on Saturday to tell me he was on the road already.

The transmissions start life here :
    IMG_2071.JPG
Then all of the gears and shafts get hand built right here in the USA.

    IMG_2055.JPG
The more mechanical guys in the tour seemed to understand this stuff o_O I finally figured out what this machine does - Johny showed me once before but it didn't make any sense - this thing cuts the center teeth in the round gears.

What's most impressive is all the stuff Johnny knows about machines and transmissions - his transmission is his own design. He is a mechanical genius but took the time to explain all the steps in building the parts.

    IMG_2051.JPG

He has his own cases cast in the USA

    IMG_2053.JPG

    And the tail housings too

Makes me proud to see all this USA made hardware. No Chinese junk here!

Even though the race was rained out - it gave us all time to hang out so it turned out good anyway. Big thanks to Quain and Johnny for taking valuable time to set up the tour!

Well Hell Tony, you told me to call you when I left Griffin, so that's what I did, LOL!!!!m Had a wonderful time browsing around in JH's shop, listening to his explanations, asking a question now and then about a process or procedure and gloating over seeing good stuff made the right way right here in USA with the same sort of equipment used in the days back when I began my machinist career almost 50 years ago, and some of the equipment almost as old as I!
Lunch was at a place called Lil' Rebel a diner with a huge menu of huge portions of well prepared food. Find it if you're ever in Traveler's Rest, SC. Tired old fart by the time I got home about 16 hours after I left, but a good tired. Thx Quain, for lining it up, and Tony for calling me and inviting me.
Quain, the other issue you and I discussed will be moved along a bit when I talk to the person in question.
