    Hi Matt

My aunt in Long Beach ca bought a new 56' Chrysler Windser 2 dr hardtop, that was taken care of at the dealer and a real cream puff

In 63' she bought a new one and I bought the 56' from her, and it made a perfect tow car with plenty of room for friends & tools gas etc in the trunk

It was such a near color I just had to paint the 37' to match and it worked out great, and the 56' had some light blue for a cool look too

All I did was put pipes & a hitch on it and keep it polished, hook up the tow bar and down the road

    Don

Hey Fingers that is one nice Willys you have got going there, and welcome to the gasser thread too

Is it a streeter or a racer and what kind of power will you use ?

    Hi Rusty

Boy I sure wished I did as I was just thinking about keeping the 37' running , so I could race it often and back then we did not value pics like we do today

What do they say about looking backwards, things are more clearer by a bunch

I have been looking for one of those car artists - photo shop guys that can make me up a painting of the two cars together with the tow bar

The biggest problem is getting two pics of the cars that line up right, but I hear now that that they can rotate the image in the photo shop program ?

    Still looking, Don

    Hi Itchy

Your first one is a beauty also with the candy red color, what color will the new one be?

  16. Thats awesome itchy!

Squirrel your car sees a lot of miles and runs great too. Congrats on drag week and weekend.

Dave nothing wrong with a street 350. Looking forward to hearing it run. I've got a vortec headed 350 with 9:1 comp. Just needs a cam

Nope, nothing wrong with a street 350! But don't be afraid to build something more wild if you want to, there are many ways to go really fast and keep it reliable and driveable. After spending some time watching guys drive around in six second cars, you don't accept many excuses :)

  18. 5K a year is a driver for sure!

My dart heads are perimeter bolt for that older look. I may not be in love with the alt bracket, water pump, or thermo housing but will address that when I see it.

It was over 5k in two months...I guess it's time to drive another one for a while!

Dressing an engine to look right can be fun, there are a few new parts you can buy that fit, but it usually involves scrounging old stuff.

  21. Catching up on this thread and have to say it's still a good one. The Hudson is cool and the body reminds me of the white one that use to battle the hot rod willys at goodguys Indy back in the 90s.
Itchy what is going to power that Willys ?

  22. Squirrel watching those really fast cars on the street must be quite the sight. Your car driving to and from the events is an amazing accomplishment.

Nice looking engine Dave, it should get you down the road real good with those numbers

Things have sure changed as I had my 37' on Landy's wheel dyno , and it made 425 hp in 65' and ran 121mph with that kind of power

Now it is low for the street cars, what a crazy world

  26. Yep agree, that was a big number in 65! Not sure I have the onions to stripe a 124 in this straight axle, but time will tell.

Wish he had my mechanical fuel pump installed on the dyno run but if it works out I will stop whining.
He ran the engine through heat cycles for hours before that dyno pull. Had a dizzy issue that required a new dizzy. One problem I wont need to fix.

Maybe things have changed for engine break in as in the past on the dyno, standard run in was at 2500 for 30 minutes with a load on it to seat the rings

Then re torque the head bolts while it is hot, back together check the spark put on the race or dyno pipes and you are ready to blast it and see if you did your home work right with some good numbers

I used plain old Valvoline 50Wt racing oil on the dyno and it worked great, and ran it for the racing too

After the dyno I would take off my dyno oil pan and take a peek at the bearings, put the race pan on and fill her up with some new 50 Wt and give it to the customer to go out and have some fun and maybe kick a little butt too
