Hot Rods 1939 Lincoln Zephyr Coupe

Hi boys,
I've just managed to get my hands on my dream car...a 39 Lincoln Zephyr coupe.
It has no diff or front end...just wondering what will bolt on to either end. I would like to run disc brakes on the front at very least. Any info or advice would be greatly appreciated. If anyone has a running V12 they would like to part with I might be interested too....the one that came with the car is all in pieces.

Probably a 37-42 Ford or Lincoln will slide under the front just fine. That is just a guess though.

 

What an amazing find; congratulations on scoring such a solid looking Zephyr coupe!!!! Very little interchange's from the same era Fords so finding Zephyr parts to replace what's missing would be ideal unless you plan on splitting the body from the frame or working around the unibody obstacles.

From a bolt in replacement stand point 39 is a very unique year, its the first year of hydraulic brakes so 37/38 diffs and axles will give you braking issues mechanically. Also 39 was the last year of the floor shifter so keep that in mind because the 40-48 steering columns and shifter units WILL bolt in to the 39s place if you plan on going back with OG parts.

I would be inclined to look for original Lincoln measurements up front and go from there.

I think the rear ends looked similar but were actually larger. You may want to go for a later rear that's the right size rather than try to track down an original Lincoln rear end (but they do pop up occasionally).

Wow, a dream car for me too!

I know what it's like starting with a bare shell/chassis. But could you give a brief outline of the direction for the project please? Something that will "bolt in either end" is a little vague. Naturally the true answer to this is the original Lincoln parts, but I get the idea that you're looking for something else.

the direction for the car is to stay as original as possible but I want the car to stop, turn and ride nice. Maybe a nine inch in the rear. Matt from Townsend Customs is building the car in California before he ships it out....he's a fantastic fabricator and car builder.
We won't even be painting the car....Matt will do repairs and it will be left in a patina finish. As low as possible without airbags and a V12....that's the basic plan so far but I'm sure a few things might change along the way....we've only had the car a few days and thought I should start the research process.

I'm not sure which barn find was talked about but this one was in a barn !!

 

Actually the one I was talking about looked more like a chicken house. Supposedly around Modesto Cal.

Subscribed, here goes, I know of a 37 sedan in Sth. America

 

I have a friend with complete front and rear rolling assemblies I dropped from a 39 sedan. If you're interested pm me and I will send you his number. They are located in Southern California. Car looks solid. Can't wait to see what you do with it.

Not to hijack this , but that's an odd one to me , a 37 tudor stinkin heifer ,way cool.
Though the coupe is something dreams are made of , I am sure you keep pinching yourself , freaking awesome right there. The rest of can keep dreaming.

Depends what you want out of the finished car I would say.
