It's OK Mike, we know us 4 speed guys are a dying breed. I have said many times before that a slow 4 speed car takes more talent to drive than a fast automatic car, believe me I know. Enjoy the build and come check out a Southeast gasser race sometime and you will see what we are talking about. Oh yea there is no break out in the SEG , first to the line wins just like the 60s.
Hi Quain Boy that video sure does bring back some cool memories for me, but I never had a foxy lady wave me up to the line as that would have been icing on the cake !!! Thanks for posting the video, Don
Great film - like I said earlier -love the jump on each shift. I cannot afford all the parts replacement & time to rebuild each week. No breakout sounds great - before bracket racing that evolved into guy with the most bucks wins. Ever been to a "lemons road race"? Full tractor trailers bring in $1000 "lemons" race cars + Ferrari pit car to cruise in. Wish you all the luck & love - like I said love the stick cars and concept.
All kidding aside, you need to check out the Southeast Gassers. Old school all the way. I really don't believe it is a rich mans class. At least go to the website and read the rules. Great entertainment in just reading the rule book. Look them up on youtube. My big regret is not joining in sooner!
Another good week. Located the rear springs. Installed the basic cage. Nothing fancy...simple and safe. Moved the engine back 4" more. Couldn't resist, installed one wheel and trimed the wheelwell. Had to see the look. This is where the cars develop their personalities.
I have never seen a build go so fast your going to be ready for the spring race with bells on. I,m glad you cut the wheel openings that's what makes them look like a gasser.
Thanks. It all has to come back apart for paint and detail work though. Have to figure out a paint scheme too. Getting what I can done before cold weather sets in. Cold weather is the time for engine, transmission and rearend assembly. I'll see you saturday.
I've had the frame rails waiting on another project for 2 yrs and the cage kit is a Jegs a-body kit. Goes together quick but I doubt it fits as nice and tight as yours.
A fast build makes for a great read. Love the choice of Cuda body, this is shaping up to be an impressive car.
This is a really cool build. I'm building a 51 Dodge gasser, not period correct, and I'm moving quite a bit slower than you. Keep up the good work.
The rear frame rails are as wide as the stock frame, so I tied them in at the holes used to attach the rear bumper-using that rear structure. Frame attached to body shell at the bottom a & b pillar sills and where front down bars pass by the lower windshield bed. I'll get some pics later. Floor will be later. Have to deal with the front axle next...after Greer this weekend.
Actually I have owned stick cars - probably before you were born. In one reved 1st & 2nd, spinning in wet leaves, went for 3rd and went back into 1st - big revs but engine lived. Sold car soon after. In another beat on it enough would shift when valves floated; to young to bother changing valve springs. The good old ( younger ) days. Now autos have trans brakes & manual valve bodies - your wife's auto have those? All are fun times.
Just read your rules - admire your attempt to have & keep '60s gasser class. Love the old gassers - was an old teen watching them. Helped buddy with '57 ford McCulloch blower and 3 speed run gasser class - with stock cam - watch them '57 chevies go by.
Are you hiding a village of Kebler Cookie Chassis builders!? Thank thing is coming together "Lickity Split"!
She has the manual valve body, but no trans brake. Foot brake class. Those days are gone now, she's helping me on mine now.
They are actually mountain trolls. Going too smoothly! Hit my first real snag--front axle too wide for my liking. Must narrow and re-fit after Greer this week. Nice new fancy chrome oil pan wont work either. Got a plan though.
