This thread was started three years before that rat rod show was ever on the air, he's slowly fixing everything.

If you could bother to read the thread, or develop any sort of reading comprehension you'd see that he is not only fixing all the bullshit as he goes but that the car most likely was never finished and driven in the first place.

Some of you guys must not know me very well. And what's this television you speak of?? Sure, the car is staying in "patina" for awhile, but did you notice how I've been un-fucking the cobbled bits? How about how I managed to make the transmission and clutch actually work with this setup? What about how I flipped the rear suspention back over and correctly? And I suppose that mounting the body so it won't fall of the frame or twist the doors open everytime you make a turn or hit a bump isn't that interesting? I guess those parts of the thread didn't have enough pictures....

I am the first one to jump into the rat rods vs. hot rods fight... so believe me when I say all you keyboard jockeys will be looking at a nice and shiny hot rod soon enough.... just whenever I get the time. For now we're going to get it back on the road and show it around town in hopes that some history on the car turns up.

Anybody else feel like bitching or should I just quit sharing altogether?

I have been watching this thread since the beginning. I am happy you are working on this car again. Please don't let the above negative comments keep you from sharing with the rest of us.

your going about it the right way. the best cars need to be "prebuilt" to work all the problems out first. then blown apart and refinished.
    carry on.........but post more.

I, for one, think you're on the right track Nick. It sounds like you have plenty of other projects, not to mention family and work to keep you busy, so blowing it apart and completely building it at this point would mean it wouldn't be up, running and out there among the masses for quite a while. This way you can enjoy it for a while while you gather parts, history and formulate a long term plan - why not? Makes sense to me. I'm doing the same with an Austin gasser I acquired recently.
As for me, I'd like to know more about how you came to know about the car and convince the owners to part with it. Oh, and of course, more pictures of the progress. Great find, stay on it!

That sounds fine to me. I can't stand the whole "patina" thing and seeing it all rebuilt and refinished properly will be a treat.

I've read this entire thread, and it looks like it was abandoned where you found it because someone realized it was a poorly constructed undriveable death trap. I think you are going about this the right way. Going through everything a bit at a time when you have the chance and the money is far smarter than blowing the entire thing apart and never finishing it. I know all about having to work around the limits that family, work and lack of money can bring, so just keep at it. Projects like this are more about winning all of the little battles as they present themselves than just trying to win the war as fast as you can.

I had a terrible day today. Everything I touched seemed to go to scrap. So I took the grille shell loose and trying to make it and the radiator somewhat straight. Nevermind the crooked headlamps... they're just sitting on there loose.

Calling it an early night... I plan on working on it a bunch this weekend.

Got a few hours in today. Nothing too interesting or photogenic... unless pale colored T-bucket drivers are your thing. Chip (aka needlouvers?) came down to help button up a few things. He got the slop out of the steering, got the head lamps mostly straight, a well as double checked my wiring job. I mainly focused on getting the doors to close nicely and finished locking the body down to the frame. It will be a thrash but I reckon we are close enough that I feel like I might actually get to drive it this week.

I like it. Don't listen to the gas bags. Big difference between fake patina and preserved history. Everything doesn't need to look like it was built yesterday.

I think you're doing a great job - definitely going about it the right way by sorting through everything before you drive it. It's a work in progress; keep doing what you are doing!

Well boys, this is probably the absolute worst video in the history of shitty videos but it's video. It also happens to show the car moving under it's own power for the first time in over forty years. The shut down moment was to see where a pinging noise was coming from, turns out the fan was catching a poorly indexed hose clamp on the lower radiator hose. After sorting that and topping off the water level we took turns ripping down the block and back. Have a few issues to work out but nothing too major... brakes are weak, clutch is a touchy basturd, radiator has a leak or three... but it runs. And drives. It even stops. Here's the shittiest video in the world to prove it......

Preserved history in the form of rot and decay is bullshit. All car guys improved upon their rides as they could afford to do so. When something was old it was rebuilt and refinished.
A car can be restored, repainted and refinished and still retain it's history.
(If it had any to begin with )

Today has been a long time coming. Visited the DMV to get the ball rolling on a title and they gave us a temporary plate so instead of loading it back on the trailer I hot footed it back to the shop. Buttoned up a few little details and brought the car home. We do a few holiday cruises and the New years day run is from downtown Phoenix out to a place called Tortilla Flats. Let's hope I tightened all the bolts and nuts. Here's a pic from about two minites before it went down the road legally for the first time in at least 40 years. I'll do my best to get some on the road video tomorrow. And to all the guys that have said to blow it apart and blah blah blah, don't worry.... that part is coming soon.
