Hot Rods LETS SEE YOUR RACE CARS THAT ALSO DO THE STREET!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by mad mikey, Nov 29, 2015.

  1. Actually mine is not a race car that gets driven on the street, it's a street car that goes to the track a couple of times a year.

Really good thread. Love the gassers!

  7. Yes- 400 5.7 rod Ancient Brownfield heads(later to become AFR),(From a sprinter) custom Bullet roller, and a one off(at the time) Lemmon's headers..... I had some Super Stock guy's on my side.....
To cover other threads= Yep= street driven/regularly. No rain, and no snow driven in. Easy to drive, and never pulled or chirped with slicks.....Now when the pavement was damp, well,my youth kicked in some, and slideways/hanging it was always fun! Spool, and 4.86 gears.converter was a lil loose, but you'de never know it.....
Cake and eat it too? Hell Yes!

Nice. I cant post pics of my street/occasional strip car here without incurring the wrath of the mods (its in my public album), but I guess I can talk about it with no pics, daily driver, 3400with driver, 11/1 355, RPM heads, comp cams 244/252 110 LSA solid, perf. RPM with 4 corner 750, 700r4 with 4000 stall 9.5" FTI lock-up and 4.56s, best so far on M/T 28/12.50/15 ET Streets and through the pipes 12.08. Its apart now, changing to AFR195's, custom Bullet single pattern solid 239/108LSA and swapping the intake rockers to 1.6, bigger headers, a close ratio gearset in the trans, and trying to get some weight off the nose. I'll also probably end up with a Team G single plane replacing the RPM, I'll do some track testing, pretty sure the single plane will bury the rpm with the 108 LSA. Hoping to go 11.70s/11.80s on M/T ET SS radials next year, and keep the gas mileage the same, which is pretty good right now.
With the heads we have available and OD automatics, its easier than its ever been to live with a fast car every day on the street.

Mike's been deep in the 9s with his Henry J, and put a lot of miles on it. Too bad he sold the car...

Yes, no doubt about it that the Invisible Kid is Rocking a killer ET on the Nova, but the Willys clawing to the Sky? So many killer pics, and so hard to choose!

Well, and it said in the article in R&K that Kev's car has a 283 in it, so that's something. But man, knocking on the nines in a 2900/3000lb sb street car with 30 yr old cylinder heads...DAMN!
Kev, lets hear more about your Willys. How quick is it, whats it weigh, and whats in the motor? Is it a 283?

hmmmm....I've run 9.92 in my turd, with 45 year old heads (and 50 year old converter, point ignition, 7" slicks, etc), and put 10k miles on it in the past 18 months. But it won't wheelie like the cool cars.

  16. Engine in the Willys was a 283 but now has a 355 with the same power pac heads with 2.02 valves, cam, single 750 Holley etc from the 283. It weighs 2660 pounds. It is not very quick but it has a wicked launch. It runs in the twelves. It has very good street manners, idles good, doesn't load up, doesn't overheat. It is fun driving it to work and around town etc but no good for long trips due to the 4.56 gears. It has enough power to have fun but not enough to scare me. It would pull a good wheelie with the 283 too. I understand that wheelies are not good for winning races but I am far from a serious racer, when I go to the track I just want to blast down the track and have fun.

A well set up Car or Dragster will leave the starting line hard and run down the track like it is on a string. Squirrel your Car is no Turd, but I bet it runs like it is on a string and is set up well. Cars do not have to drag their back bumper to be cool, you proved that in spades with your Car and success at Drag Week.

Cool. How fast did it go with the 283? Heavy flywheel, right?;) Power packs on a 350, I bet that thing has some compression.

  19. I am the same way. Having fun in these cars is what it is all about for me. The coupe has run well into the 9s, when it goes down track in a sane manner, or I dont brake something. She gets bent out of shape sometimes and unpredictable . Can make the old ticker skip a beat or two.

I didn't realize you car had gone that quick, those are solid numbers. Hell, my truck gets 'em up (barely:p) and its a 12 second sled, so I wouldn't lose too much sleep about the wheelies.:D

  21. If you are serious about ETs you just build your car to stand up and cut a straight line.^^^^^
A long time ago a man who knew as much about going fast as anyone told me this one simple truth. If you motor won't run 10s make you chassis run 10s.

No disrespect intended to anyone here, there are some awesome cars in this thread and I would be proud to stand in the pits with any of you guys.

    Man i dig this thread!!
So many killer dual purpose rides, all very cool!
Kev, having a soft spot for a Willys i've always loved your car!

I cant participate this time 'cause even though i built my coupe to run, and i truly believe it will, i've yet to hit the 1320 due to one weak link, my transmission.
When i get the coin to upgrade it i'll go see what it does and dig this old thread up!
Til then i wont speculate ;) :D Haha

    Very cool guys!
