  5. My pal, lothianwilly, 10387335_10202803442721519_3996176947987864117_n.jpg just sent me this picture. Marmon-Herrington conversion.

  6. After a rebuild, mine is put back together enough to drive and start working out the bugs, start making the tweaks and adjustments.

  7. Hey Phartman,

I'm digging the upholstery in the sedan!

  8. I didn't know you had a 40 sedan Pete! Cool. Looks like some work has been done to the rear fender wheel opening.

  9. The auto trimmer and I are fans of both C&W music and cowboy Saturday matinee movies. We looked at the stock '40 interiors and decided to give it a more Western treatment ala Tom Mix and Hopalong Cassidy. We asked each other, "What would Cowboy Copas do?"

  10. You have a good eye, my friend. Yes, I had a discussion with Rik Hoving about putting the one-year-only '39 Merc fenders on my coach, and he told me he had only seen that once on a mild custom. I am a big fan of that fender, and never understood why the profile wasn't used more often by designers.

So we lowered the '40 tire reveal 4-5" to mimic the '39 example. It results in the stance looking altered, but it is an illusion. The springs and other suspension components are stock. It rides like a dream.

Damn Phartman, that is cool inspiration! Some of my best memories of my mispent years growing up in the 50s was going to grandma's and being able to watch Six Gun Playhouse on the TV. Whats more America than hot rods and cowboys???

  13. ..........That's kinda cheatin' since you've had so much "intimate" experience with left rear fenders in recent months.:D;)

  18. Tony, I paid attention to your writing about good design on a '40, and those two elements just seemed like they belonged on a classic mild custom.

  19. That's Little Roy Wiggins on the pedal steel. You have good taste in music. He's one of the greats.

Had a buddy buff out the oxidation from the paint before the Hot Rod Holiday show, here in Springfield. The truck found another '40 Ford to hang out with for the weekend.

couple of more photos from Gene Sonnen, who arguably could be "Mr. 40".
